A Planted Heart Just for You

Walking through the garden last summer I spied a heart. The heart appears to be one flowerhead, but it actually is three. I knew it would be perfect for Valentine's Day.

'Miss Huff' is a lovely lantana that is reputed to be hardy in my Zone 6/7 garden. Do you suppose Miss Huff was in love when she grew the heart?

in the garden....wishing you all a very nice Valentines Day.

  8. Good morning all. I have to mention the most recent plane crash, yes I know, a sad thing today. Let's all think about them this morning and this weekend. So very unimaginable!

  9. How cool is that! I have Miss Huff in my garden too and I'm looking forward to seeing if she is hardy like the nursery stated. Happy Valentines Day Tina!

  10. Thank you Tina, and may you have a wonderful Valentine's day too.

I've tried to grow lantana as an annual and it never does well for me. Yours is doing great, the blending of colors is lovely. I hope it comes back for you in the spring.

  11. Thanks all on the lantana. I wish the picture really showed the heart as it was-just amazing. I wanted to say I have a backup in case the outside Miss Huff don't make it.

Marnie, not sure the secret of lantana, maybe the variety as I too have had bad luck with some of them. I really like lantana though since it is SO drought tolerant. Skeeter had a bunch and loves them too.

Everybody have the greatest day! Looks like a good one and everywhere I go on the blogs and here too, I see spring....enjoy.

  15. It is very beautiful!

Yes the plane crash is very sad and when you have had someone killed in a plane crash in the past you always relive it all over again when you hear of another. Since it happened to me on 2 different times, today is not a happy day for me, even after all these years. Never get over it so I think maybe that is why the last crash (before last night) was so amazing and heartwarming to me. When a plane crashes it seems so tragic and senseless and then the families have to wait for up to a year or more for answers as to why it happened and the NTSB rules. In the crash that Tommy died it, it was 2 years but that is very uncommon to wait that long as they just kept trying to find an answer and could not. If there is no answer (at least back in 1973) it goes down as pilot error and they don't wanna do that if there is any way around it. Just terrible.

  18. Hi All,
Tina, that is a lovely lantana. I have one that looks like that.I also have some others that are different colors. I hope they come back this Spring. Should I prune them?
Tragic about the plane crash. Here we are dealing with the little 5 yr old that went missing early Tues. from her bed. This happened around the time of the Anthony memorial. I had to stop watching the memorial as it brought back too many memories. Long ago but still fresh in my mind.
    Have a wonderful Valentine Tina.
    Happy Valentine to all.

  20. Lantana are always fun to me - they look completely different close up with their tiny bouquets than they do as a groundcover filling in somewhere. I go for the blue/purple ones, but yours is perfect for Valentine's day.

  21. Cool Tina! That is soo perfect for the occasion :) I love Lantanas. If I had a space on the ground, I'd fill a side of my garden with these beauties!

  23. Wait a minute--weren't you just telling me how organized I am? That's very clever taking a photo in summer to save for a Valentine's post. Kudos!

  25. Hey you all, it's Friday! And I am hoping everyone has a great weekend!

  26. Thankyou for the Valentine heart. Lantana is a wonderful bloomer and completely hardy here in zone 9. The biggest problem is that it is poison to cows so if any of you are farmers, please take that into consideration. I had a cow that decided to eat it and it made her extremely sensitive to the sun. Her poor nose turned black and I had to pen her up for a few days. My vet told me what it was.

  27. It sure does look like a heart! I love lantanas.
I just realized that it's Friday the 13th. I'm glad I'm not superstitious.

  28. Hi Gandree, You are very welcomed on the heart and welcome to our blog. Your poor cow! I do hope she made a speedy recovery. I will for sure be careful of it here as my neighbor does have cows, and I will spread the word. Have a great weekend!

  31. Tina, what a great Valentine! You amaze me-had I seen the heart and taken a picture of it, I would have long ago forgteen that I was going to use it for Valentine's Day. One of the sad realities of getting old. :}

  32. What a fun picture - trust you to skip the traditional red rose for a Valentine flower shout out that's much more gardeny!

  33. Hi Tina, thanks for the Camellia name (it's so lovely!) and Happy Valentine's Day to you too.

I haven't yet tried lantana but my MIL grows them with great success. One of those plants that just loves heat.

  38. Hi all, Thanks for you kind wishes. Our Valentine's Day was perfect and I hope you all's was too.

JGH, The lantana has three flower here that seemed as though they grew together, they didn't but a perfect heart indeed.

Wayne, I try real hard in the morning to get to all new posts via my blogroll and Blotanical. I keep up with more than I can manage though lately so I have had to back down a bit with responding. I have you on Blotanical so I visit you there. Blogs should have a warning-beware-time will be in short supply once you start! Have a great day all!
