I wasn't going to post today but thought I'd share a bit of my garden after the two inches of hard sugary powder snow we received yesterday. I was struck by the bones of the garden as much as the little foot prints of animals wondering by and the ice crystals glowing in the brilliant sun. The snow may have made a mess of the roads but my oh my, how the garden shines. I think I enjoy the garden so much more on days like this...

So nice to see someone else embracing Winter. Your pics are beautiful, especially those with the light of the sunshine. Loved your shadow!
ReplyDeleteSure is different than in the summer!!! We are getting snow today and Papa and I have been watching a chipmunk trying to get seed from under the bird feeder. I threw out a small ear of corn that I buy for my cocktiels for him and it sunk in the snow but since the little guy has tunnels in the snow I think he will fnd it. He keeps popping his head up thru the snow in different places.
ReplyDeleteThat's a truly civilized amount of snow, and so pretty. I particularly like the photo with the mosaic.
ReplyDeleteOh darn, I forgot to mention that the second picture with your shadow is neat.
ReplyDeleteMeredehuit, Thanks so much! The winter is beautiful and though many are complaining about the snow (myself included at times) it sure is a lovely sight and relaxing in the garden. Stay warm in Utah!
ReplyDeleteMom, So much fun watching the little rascal. I hear you all are going to get about 7" of snow. That chipmunk will surely love the seeds you are giving it. The shadow was a mistake but when I saw it I said oh well. It is SO sunny here but so cold and pretty. Say hi to Papa for me.
Cyndy, You guys are getting hammered by the snow too and boy it sure has been a lot. Glad you like the mosaic picture. Those mosaics are so perfect in the garden. Have fun in Italy!
It is very beautiful. Love seeing the structures (bones) of the garden.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing more of your garden. It looks pretty covered in snow. I LOVE that yellow gate, I've never seen it before. Your garden really does have nice bones.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that snow always brings out contrasts in garden photos; things that you might not see in the rain, or just calm winter weather. These are lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteTina, Thank you so much for bringing the bad link to my attention! I misspelled my blog link, can you believe that?! Here is the proper link...
ReplyDeleteSnow is magical when it doesn't come very often isn't it? You have a beautiful view from your porch.
ReplyDeleteHello Tina! It is hard not to be captivated by a snow covered garden...it just makes everything so pretty. Still loving that mosaic! Have a great weekend ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely and all that, but I for one am ready for winter to be over. It is not forecasted to get above freezing today.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Tina, the garden really shines with a coating of snow. As long as I don't have to get out and drive in it, I'm happy to see the snow all winter. My plants can use the insulation from the cold, and heaven knows they can use the moisture.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you for embracing the cold and seeing and sharing the beauty.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Snow is more special in the south because you get it so rarely. It seems like this year you're making up for all the years that were snow-free! Great pix!
ReplyDeleteI love how the snow gives the garden a fresh, clean look when the garden gets all drab in the winter. And I still LOVE that mosaic! I learned to do a few simply mosaics this summer, maybe I can tackle something like this some day.
ReplyDeleteI think winter's beautiful too Tina (. . . especially from indoors!) I love the light in winter when the ground is all snow-covered and the sun is shining.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so peaceful and pretty there with your fresh coat of sugary snow!
The snow is just beautiful! Thanks for sharing pictures with us!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing snow in other peoples gardens ~ yours is really pretty covered in white Tina. I bet it's already melted?? That's the best way to have it.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if I told you, but I actually found a few Amaryllis on clearance at our Lowe's (not for a dollar but at least half off). Can you believe every single one had a bud that then withered up? ugh. I was bummed. Oh well. Hopefully I can get them to bloom next year. Thanks again for the heads up.
Looks great. I often wish I gardened somewhere with a real winter. We're not even getting snow in the mountains this month, let alone where people have gardens.
ReplyDeleteI see you're making the most of this snowy winter. Everything looks so clean. Love the Wisteria arbor.
ReplyDeleteHey, Tina,
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your snow photos. Our snow is gone so I'm getting out of the house today.
Wow! I'm so surprised you have all that snow although we have been hearing about it in the news, you actually got more than us!
ReplyDeleteLooks totally different doesn't it? Mine is so the same it's not funny, love the composter though, good stuff. Thanks for the well wishes, tired and fatigued mostly.
Hi Tina, hope we don't get anymore snow. I am so ready for spring:)
ReplyDeleteAnd, Dawn it was good to see you on -I hope your feeling stronger.
The most exciting thing in my garden right now are the tons of birds who are searching for food. Not to worry the kids and I bought another 40 pound bag -it goes FAST!
Ciao!
I love discovering tiny footprints in the snow as well. Your garden looks lovely even in winter.
ReplyDeleteHi Tina, I agree that there's something magical about a snow-covered garden. We know all the hidden things that will emerge in the spring, but in the winter the snow makes it seem particularly peaceful. I love your wisteria arbor and hope you post some photos of it in blossom.
ReplyDeleteNo snowmen? Tina, next time it snows you need to get cracking on that! Just kidding.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks beautiful winter or summer!
Always fun to take this time to look at the "blank slate" and envision new pathways and plantings too - a whole new perspective!
