March Winds

                        BY SKEETER
Hey, guess what? Spring has sprung here in my GEORGIA GARDENS! Look at the budding tree,

 the blooming Phlox,
 the blooming Heather,

and Pear tree blossoms.
We have been busy removing dead or dying trees from the front woods area. Those two stumps are waiting for me to do something fun with them. In the center of this photo, you can see a tall Poplar tree.
As I zoom upward into that Poplar tree, I see Mrs. Hawk working on her nest. Can you see her all camouflaged in her nest?
Here she is testing it out. See the Poplar buds? I hope the tree leaves will not hide our view of her and her mate as they raise their young.
Today she caught a field mouse and ate it as I observed her through the field glasses! What a treat to see that moment of Wild Kingdom in my own trees! Mr. and Mrs. Hawk have been keeping close to each other the past few days and I have seen them mating high in the trees on numerous occasions the past month. They should have eggs in the nest soon. I find them so exciting to observe.

My little Carolina Wrens are back on the front porch as well. Those faux birdhouses do not deter them from nesting and since they are not messy birds, I will allow them to raise yet another brood on the porch. I find them just as exciting to observe.
We have watched both Mr. and Mrs. Wren build the nest as we sit on our living room sofa and peer out the windows. What fun and such a loud song we get from them each morning as they perch on the porch railings.
And last but not least, it would not be spring without my Bright Yellow Daffy's swaying in the MARCH WINDS, In the Garden...

  1. Hello Skeeter girl !
I won't go on and on about how we are locked in winter here still .. same old story how we are almost the last places to finally have Spring .. I will have to enjoy yours girl ! LOL
We had those wrens one year when Spring came early and the temps were exceptionally warm.
I loved those birds and they nested in our back yard ... they were so sweet and their songs were too. I don't think we will see them this year though .. BIG sigh !
I can't wait for my daffs to wave at me in the wind too ! haha
    Joy : )

    1. I am so lucky to be one of the first regions to enjoy Spring. My most favorite time of year for sure. I just love it when the warmth hits the air and the garden starts to wake up to the songs of my beloved birds high in the trees! I do not care for winter at all and when spring hits, I am on Cloud nine for sure..... Keep looking as spring is just around your corner....

    1. Not having dogs around may be why we see them so often and they nest near us. I just hope they can deal with me clipping the hedge, mowing the grass and other noisy things with them being so close this year. I will be nice and do my chores around their schedule. Yes, I am an animal lover for sure....

  3. What fun that you have a pair of red shouldered hawks nesting in your garden. WOW. We too love to watch the wrens nesting in our garden. They are so busy. It is that time of year. It won't be long things will be hopping here. I too have a few daffodils blooming.

    1. This will be the second year they have nested in our woods! But this time, within sight of our front porch so we can clearly observe them. Last time, they nested in the middle of the woods in a tall Georgia Pine tree....

    1. All critters are welcome in my gardens, Great and small. Hopefully the Great ones (Hawks) will keep the vole/mole issues at a minimum for me this year!

    1. Another of my Spring favorites as it reminds me of my childhood and the huge planter my grandmother had of Phlox surrounding our front porch....

  7. Hi Skeeter, nothing is blooming in Maine so thanks for sharing your spring flowers. How lucky you are to host a nesting hawk!

  8. I envy you, no signs of spring here. Still freezing overnight and the frost/freeze keeps the mud nice and oozy.

  9. how wonderful to be able to watch the wren family close up and the hawk family through binoculars. Hope you keep us informed of their progress. We once had a blackbird nesting in a similar corner of our deck, but they never came back again.
