Not too long ago I saw a picture of a craft that I liked very much. And since I have limited space I thought this the perfect solution. I purchased the items needed (Re bar, Terra Cotta Pots & soil) and got to work. In the first picture you can see how I got started. The next picture shows how I proceeded with my project.
Here they are all put together. Not finished yet.
A different angle. This shows my blueberry in the half whiskey barrel. It has blueberries on it. Yuummmm!
Here I've added some more pots for a collage.
This picture shows the completed project. The bottom 3 pots have Strawberry plants and the 2 top pots have alyssum planted. The alyssum is just coming up. That's my snail sprinkler tucked in there. The little rock I purchased on my trip that says "Welcome".
So I am hoping for a fruitful white topped tower....
In the Garden.
Lola
Lola - My Mom is doing the same project. Her is going to be all flowers though. She is so excited to get it finished but she needs a couple of more pots.
ReplyDeleteI have seen this project and thought about doing it too! I am not sure what I would put in the pots. Will have to ponder a while. Great post.
ReplyDeleteLola .. I have seen this built up before (not actually here .. but some where .. LOL) and it is very pretty when the plants fill out the pots .. quite an attractive project girl !
ReplyDeleteMorning all! Another 80 degree day here. What fun. Good news though-rain in the forecast!
ReplyDeleteLola, Love this pot! You did a good job. I too am looking forward to seeing your 'fruitful white topped tower' soon. It will be easy to pick the fruit and how awesome to fit so much in a small area. Good job! P.S. My husband was standing in the driveway last night and spotted the tree face. He started chuckling and said he loved it! He says it fits in perfectly. From him-big praise.
Good Morning Everyone.
ReplyDeleteJillybean, I'm so glad your Mom is doing this project too. I've found it easy & productive.
Lola, What a great idea and a super space saver! I'm going to be doing that with my herbs! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJanet, you really should try this project. so rewarding. But do plant something that doesn't require a lot of water.
ReplyDeleteGardenJoy4Me,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment. Isn't it nice when we can do projects seen like this. Just need to let the mind wonder.
Great idea Lola! You are a cleaver one. Wish I had some of those blueberries for my cereal this morning! YUM!!
ReplyDeleteHave a good day!
Thanks a million Tina.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds a little hot for this time of the yr there. Glad you may get some needed rain. Really nice here.
Sadly my strawberry plants died. I don't think they were good from the start. I will have to resort to another plan. Maybe all flowers.
Many Thanks to Mr Fix-it. I'm glad he likes it. I think it's quite a novelty & I'm glad it fits your garden so well.
I'm off to the garden. I need to get my bed ready to plant corn & some more squash.
Great idea with the herbs, Dawn. They don't require a lot of water. That is the only drawback with this material. You need drought tolerant plants.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda,
ReplyDeleteThose berries will taste mighty good on cereal. Won't be long now.
I have another idea about the pots. That may be later.
I hope all have a productive day In the Garden.
Good morning Lola! I have always liked the look of this project! I can't wait to see it filled in and overflowing with strawberries. I planted two blueberry bushes and they have blueberries forming, too. ! Have a sweet day! gail
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing the results from your flowering/fruiting tower. I think it's a great idea (and wish I had planted my different flavors of mint that way instead of in one large pot).
ReplyDeleteCameron
Lola, thanks for sharing your pretty tower with us. It looks like just the thing for cascading flowers.
ReplyDeleteNeat idea Lola! It lets you plant more stuff vertically which saves on space.
ReplyDeleteHi Lola, I love this - saw it 2 months ago when I first started blogging and already showed it to Mr. Bob so he can do it for me - he seemed to think the pole had to be bent but it didn't did it? If not I can do it myself. Just haven't decided what to put in mine. I'm pretty sure some Campanula will be in one of the pots.
ReplyDeleteLove yours can't wait to see it on an update!
I enjoy things like that in the garden. It will be great filled with strawberries. When I grew them in pots they sent out their runners to cascade over the sides.
ReplyDeleteMarnie
I love that idea, I bet it'll look great as the plants grow in. I may have to try this project.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Lola so another good job star for you. Be sure and show us when the plants fill it out as I am sure it will be well worth looking at.
ReplyDeletelola,
ReplyDeletevery cool indeed...my hubby and i saw a similar project with the pots atop each other but they were a water feature. i was thinking of doing one. you might just have inspired me to try...now i just need the time.
happy springtime(feels like summer) to you.
Great job on the tipsy pots project Lola. Can't wait to see it when it has filled in this summer. :)
ReplyDeletegreat idea !!! herzliche Grüße von Kathrin
ReplyDeleteBerries with whipped cream on top?! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI too saw this and was thinking of trying it......it's way cool!!
ReplyDeleteI have seen this project in magazines and thought it would be fun to try! But I never got around to it.:( But there is still hope for me yet. :) Am glad to see that you have given it a go and with such good luck I might add! Cant wait to see an update with flowing pretties.
ReplyDeleteHow do you put the holes into the bottom of the pots or do you use the holes and use another technique for the pots? I do not recall the magazine telling me how to make them…
How cool. I think I'm in the minority as I've never seen this project before but I like it a LOT! Very clever idea and seems easy to boot. Thanks for sharing, I'll be interested in seeing it again when the plants are filled out too.
ReplyDeleteHi Gail.
ReplyDeleteThis is a neat project. It will look good in any location.
Hope your day is coming along great.
Hi Cameron, This project would do greatly with different herbs. All kinds of mints would be great
ReplyDeleteWalk2Write, that was my intent but the strawberries died. I don't think they were good from the start. So I've changed it.
ReplyDeleteHi Dave, that's for sure. I need to go up any way I can. I don't have a lot of space.
ReplyDeleteHi RainGardener, No the re bar does not have to be bent. Just drive it into the ground about 2'. I used a 6' piece as that is as short as I could get. No need for Mr Bob unless he wants to drive the re bar in while you hold it. lol
ReplyDeleteHi Marnie, I like things like this too. I'm always trying to figure out what I can do with unusual things.
ReplyDeleteI think a post coming up with something you wouldn't think of.
Catherine do try this project. It is so easy. Easier than falling off a log. lol Just remember to use plants that don't require a lot of water.
ReplyDeleteHi Jean, Thanks a lot for a lovely comment. I've had to change it so it won't look the same as my original idea but it will work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marmee, you should really try this. It is so easy & will fit in anywhere. Most any plant that doesn't require a lot of water would work fine.
ReplyDeleteHappy springtime to you too.
Kathrin, I too like this project very much. You should try it.
ReplyDeleteJGH, Berries with whipped cream is a must. Or just mix with bananas. Or just berries. Gooooood.
Darla you should really try this. It is so neat. And so easy.
Hi Skeeter, the pots come with holes in the bottom. A 1/4" re bar will fit through the hole just find. Like threading a needle. It would look great in your garden. I need to get a terra cotta finial to go on top. Or I could put an old glass transformer on top. Grey matter still ticking on that one. lol
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen, you should try this. It is easy as pie. You could put any plant you wanted in the pots. I think it would look real good with them hanging down. As I said before my strawberry plants died so I've had to change things a bit.
ReplyDeleteHi Lola, that is going to be great, both attractive and tasty! Hooray for the blueberries too, red, white and blue. Thanks for showing us the how to, I always wondered how it was pulled together. Very crafty. :-)
ReplyDeleteFrances
These are cool. I just saw them in birds & blooms magazine about a month ago. I think I will give one a try this summer. Nice Job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea! I'll have to tuck that project away to use sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Frances, you are welcome. Yes, it is a crafty project. It's so easy & fun. I've had to change my plants. It will be flowers as my strawberry plants died. Booo Hoooo.
ReplyDeleteHi Dan, I must admit that's where I saw the photo. It is simple & easy to make. You really should try it. Thanks for the complement.
jellyfishbay, thanks a bunch. If I find a craft that I like I print it or cut it out for future use. I have a note book for that purpose.
Ah, so you use the existing holes in the pots and just stagger the pots leaning from left to right. The Saint let me in on that secret. lol, so funny when he gets it and I dont. He is so smart at times like this. :-) I like the idea of Red-White and Blue flowers in the pots for a 4th of July theme! I may give this one a try!
ReplyDeleteI have been moving a bit slow the past few days trying to catch up on missed sleep the last month and am now finding my mojo once again! I hope to be back in the garden playing tomorrow and not burning limbs as that job stinks...
I've seen this somewhere before, too, Lola, but I've never tried it. You did a great job putting it all together--and I like the little snail next to it. I hope you'll show us what it looks like later, too, when all the plants grow up.
ReplyDeleteHey Skeeter, I changed the size of the bottom pot. I used a 15" pot & the others are 10". If a smaller pot {which was suggested} is used on the bottom you wouldn't have any room to put a plant. Make sure your soil in bottom pot is wet & packed very good as that supports the next pot. After that the next pot is balanced on the rim of the one below.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it. But do take it easier. Rome wasn't built in a day, ya know. lol
Hi Rose, Thanks for the comment. It was a fun project. I will try to get a pic later.
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not that little snail is a sprinkler. You connect the hose to his back side. I also have a frog {Uncle Martin, Kermit's uncle} that does the same thing. Sadly they lost their tree when we had that storm. so now they must find another home.
I think I have to make myself one of those.
ReplyDeleteLinda
Cool project! I remember making a fountain for a present a few years ago that was a similar idea, using a pump to send water up into the top pot, and letting it spill down. Plants or water--it's a great effect!
ReplyDeleteThat looks brilliant! and like all brilliant ideas it is so simple. I think I will give it a go!
ReplyDeleteHi Lola, I love tipsy pots too. Yours look great already. Eager to see how they'll look when they fill out. The whole arrangement is lovely!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, it would be well worth making this little gem. So easy.
ReplyDeleteHi James, I agree. Either way it is a lovely project. I sure would like to built the one with water. Nothing like the sound of running water.
ReplyDeleteAny hints as to how to make a water one?
Hi Matron do give it a go. You will love the possibilities of this project. Best part, it doesn't take up a lot of room.
ReplyDeleteKanak Hagjer,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely comment. Do you have one of these. They are so versatile.
I'm lovin' it, Lola! How did you do it? It's super cool. I mean, how did you manage to stack them like that? A small tutorial would be appreciated, if you don't mind.
