The Name Tiger Gardens

From In the Garden

All gardens need a name and my gardens are no exception. While each individual garden here has a name, the overall property is named Tiger Gardens. The name Tiger Gardens comes from a combination of my name (Tina) and my husband's name (Roger). When combined the two names make Ti-Ger perfectly. I had picked the name quite some time ago but had yet to come up with a good sign announcing to all visitors the name of the gardens, but here it is-making its big debut on the worldwide web.

I purchased the black metal letters at Hobby Lobby when they were drastically marked down. I did have to buy the long deck board to mount the letters to using 'Gorilla Glue', but for a total of about $20 I have a fine looking sign that fits right in with the character of my home and gardens. As a bonus, Mr Fix-it says to me, "That sign looks really good." You know you've done good when your non-gardening hubby notices something new and even likes it!

Does your garden have a name, and if so, is the name posted somewhere in your garden?

in the garden....

P.S. The picture is formatted in cartoon mode. I really like the effect. I took this picture from an upstairs room so it is not really slanted like in the photo. I just couldn't figure out my photo software enough to straighten it out.

While Skeeter is on break helping her family recover I have a few extra posts I will post this week. We'll see next week what else I have but there may be some Tuesdays and Thursdays with no posts depending on what I have going on. Thanks and best wishes to Skeeter and all the flood victims! The way the community has pulled together to recover is amazing.

For all local readers, I have several Montgomery County Master Gardener Garden Tour tickets for sale. The tour is this Saturday from 9 am-3 pm. The plant sale will be held at Dr. Mathews garden and no ticket is required for that plant sale. Tickets are required to view the garden though. Tickets cost $10 and if you email or call me I can make arrangements to get the tickets to you today-if you let me know early enough. Thanks.

  2. I have wondered about the name of your gardens. I just hadn't tried to dig (pun intended) through your blog posts yet to find out if it was explained anywhere. Nice sign!

  3. Prayers for Skeeter and her family!

Just now saw the family picture Tina--how precious! I didn't know your girls were twins. I know you and hubby are so very proud.

  5. Tina, that's awesome. I really like tigers so I never really thought about the name, but it's so cool it's your and Roger's names combined. Even though I think of myself as the Garden Faerie, my garden as such doesn't have a name, or therefore a sign. In fact, no garden I've ever had has a name. Which is odd, because I named my car and bike, and neither is anywhere near as important to me as my garden. I will have to contemplate this situation!

  6. Good morning everyone!

Dawn, Thanks-I know it means a lot to her!

GSS, Ha! I don't blame you for not 'digging' here-too much to do as it is..in the garden:)

Linda, Twins indeed. We are very proud and most blessed. I hope your trip is great!

Randy and Jamie, Be sure to let us know what you decide for a sign. I am interested in others.

  7. Monica, For sure your gardens need a name. Can't wait to see what you figure out. Now, what are the names of the car and bike?? Don't leave me hanging...:)

  8. I hope she'll stop by and let us know how things are going. I don't have a name for my garden I guess we can just call it Dave's Garden - oh wait that one's taken!

  10. Hi Tina, I never knew how you chose the name.

Love the sign. If I wasn't at work today, I would be down at Hobby Lobby looking at letters.

  11. Cool sign, glad that hubby noticed your new creation. :) I don't have a name for my garden other than the individual names for each bed. I need to think on that some more...

  12. I have given names to each bed but so far I don't have a name for all. Must think about that.

Prayers are being said for Skeeter & her family. She sure has had a hard time of it lately.

  14. The name I came up with and never made a sign for was HollyHawk gardens. I may get around to it yet.
I love that sign and the originality of your garden's name.Glad your hubby likes it too.

  15. Dave, Nothing like marketing!

    Carla, Thanks!

Marnie, These were SO perfect I couldn't believe it. I hope you find some great letters too.

Racquel, Let us know your name when you decide. It is a tough choice for sure.

Lola, You let us know too what you name your gardens.

Darla, Borrow it all you like as ideas are free for sure. Let us know if you decide on a name for your gardens.

Rosey, HollyHawk Gardens is a lovely name! The origination? You are so creative with names especially the name of your blog.

  16. Hmm, I don't really have a clever name for my garden. Just VW garden, except that my husband might take exception with using just my initials since he provides so much of the manual labor. Your combo name is very clever!

  17. Love your sign - I also wondered how your garden got it's name. I made some greeting cards with pics of my flowers and used some of those different formats like you did with the cartoon one. They turned out really great.
I have individual names for the flower beds so we know which one we're referring to but not just one name for the whole place. Guess it could be the RainGardens since RainGardener is in charge! I usually just call it my mess!!! LOL

  18. A name for the gardens? It depends on how well they're behaving and responding to my care at any particular time. Once in a while, they're known as Ornery, Thankless, @#%&*! Right now, they're all darlings. Tell Skeeter that we're thinking about her and wishing her family a speedy recovery from the flood. I like your sign and the cartoon image, by the way.

  20. Your garden sign looks so professional Tina ~ just like everything else you do. I never have thought to make one but you've inspired a lot of us I think. Great to know how your garden got its name ~ I never knew either. It's the perfect one for your family, that's for sure.

  21. Great sign Tina -but then again you always have great ideas:) Hope you had a super day -it was field day for Girl Model -started out chilly and windy but ended nice. Our radish are popping up -yeah!!!

  22. Awww, I love the Tina Roger combination! How cute! Your sign looks fantastic, great effect with the photos, btw.

  23. I love the sign! Your names do go together to make the perfect name for you garden. How does "Cark Gardens" sound? Not so good, guess I'll have to figure out another way to come up with a name :)

  24. I always wondered where the name Tiger Gardens came from--now it all makes sense! Love the cartoon effect of the photo as well.

I wish all the best for Skeeter and her family. I haven't been watching the news at all the past week, but I hope that the clean-up is progressing well in Tennessee. This has to be so difficult for everyone affected.
