Garden Ornamentation

DSCN6724
Spring this year is beautiful! One of the best I can remember in several years; though I suspect many would disagree. Nonetheless here are some pictures of Tiger Gardens to share with you all. I've titled this post garden ornamentation because as I look around there seems to be a lot of garden ornaments. Ornaments need not be art but can also be flowers. Don't you think?

The glass mosaic is clearly an ornament. The bowling ball on the stand to the left of the glass mosaic is also an ornament. I even think the Japanese maple next to the 'Van Houtte' spirea adds to the ornamentation in this picture. I guess I am kind of going toward layers in a garden more than ornaments. But plants and garden art add to those layers.

A bottle tree draws the eye in the front yard upon one's approach to the front door. A shiny and colorful ornament for sure.

Looking to the right of the bottle tree a bit we see a garden pond. I was just reading one of my garden books (Decorating Your Garden by Jeff Cox) that says when polled people prefer a water feature over any other feature in a garden. I thought that interesting. I am very glad we have a pond in our garden-amongst other water features.

Another glass mosaic highlights a garden bed in the distance. This is the view from the front windows of the house. In the immediate bed you can see a whimsical frog keeping watch over the plants. Gotta have some whimsy too.

The backyard shows us a yellow birdhouse showcased in front of a 'Royal Purple' smoke tree. The tractor in the distance is a type of ornament I suppose but it doesn't add all that much to the garden!

Irises are surely the jewels in a garden.

I cannot think of a lovelier plant than irises in my garden right now. This one was a gift from a fellow iris lover and I treasure it and all the other irises she has given me (thanks Angie)! Oh yes! Friends are also ornaments in a garden....especially when they come and visit and you can visit them....

  1. Love to see the garden ornaments in your garden. Yep, I have lots of ornamentation. I think it adds whimsy, color and points to focus on when the flowers don't quite do the job. I love the glass mosaic you have. Those walls of glass stop the eye for sure. I would be a little leary of glass in my garden. I am such a clutz. I would probably break them.

    1. Lisa, the glass mosaics would be pretty difficult to break. They are made on tempered glass with lots of grout. Even if the glass breaks (the front red one has broken glass) the mosaic stays in place due to the grout. I have broken other glass things though-mainly wine bottles:(

  3. Hi Tina....I really enjoyed this post! Iris are indeed the center of attention right now! I agree about friends in the garden, I'm looking forward to your next visit to my garden. Maybe someday I'll have a pond in the garden...if it weren't for the frogs they attract, I'd probably already have one!!

    1. Looking forward to my visit. Christy, on the frogs you almost NEVER see them in the pond. They are a bit skittish so jump off whenever anybody comes by-even the cats scare them.

  4. Your mosaic is gorgeous! Love the irises.

I agree about water features. I'm sitting in the garden room right now (fireplace going--unbelievable for May) and outside is the waterfall.

    1. You have the biggest water feature of any garden I've seen so I know you definitely understand that Freda!

  5. Such a beautiful iris! Love your mosaic from the front window view; adding the statue in front really makes it even more effective. I'm slowing adding a few ornaments here and there in my garden, but I have trouble deciding where to place them sometimes--thanks for giving me some great ideas!

I laughed at the tractor--whenever I try to take long views of a couple garden areas, I always seem to get a rusty old truck or some farm implement in the background, too.

    1. Look for best lighting on transparent ornaments then look for a spot you will not want to move them from Rose on siting ornaments. Yup, those rusty old things get in the way sometimes.

    1. That seems to a favorite of many Sarah. So many on other websites have taken my pictures and even my whole post to claim as their own on the glass mosaic Sarah. Geez, I'm glad folks like the idea but leave the pictures please. Glad you like it! Not sure how they'd do in Maine with the tremendous temperature shifts and cold weather though.

    1. Yes indeed! I was thrilled to see you made your own one of a kind mosaic after you saw mine in the garden. And to think had you never visited you wouldn't have known about it? Now you are on the blog a lot and I'm happy to see you! Have you thought of starting your own blog Donna? I'd be happy to help you. I helped Christy out and I think she loves it! It's a great way to record your garden. Once we move I'll be so happy I can look back at this garden. The mosaics are moving with me though:) So I'll look out the window to see them.

  9. Your Mosaic looks just as good today as the day you made it girl! Love the way the sun shines through to make it glow. Just stunning....

Some Iris are still blooming in my GA Gardens but soon they will be a mere memory. Sigh, I love those guys...

I am loving this LONG Spring we are having! I know a few cool days but who cares, soon enough the Steamy Humidity will be upon me and I dread it...
