The Wonderful World of Tree Peonies

DSCN6730
The herbaceous peonies are pretty close to blooming in Tiger Gardens but not quite. In their stead would you settle for the herbaceous peony's cousin-the tree peony?

I promise it smells just as good as herbaceous peonies.

It stands a little taller and straighter than herbaceous peonies.

The 'trees' don't usually hold as many flowers as an herbaceous peony but the few flowers that bloom on a tree peony have something special about them that herbaceous peonies don't.

You might not be able to tell from the pictures but the difference is huge when admiring tree peonies up close.

The blooms are about twice the size of herbaceous peony blooms!

And what a sight to behold! Hang in there the herbaceous peonies are on their way soon but for now enjoy the tree peonies....

  1. Ooooo love that yellow one. Mine always seems to be short lived. The bloom that is. They start blooming and then the rain comes and beats them off the tree. Worth the space they grow in though. You have a lovely collection of this plant.

  5. Hi Tina, the peonies have some time before bloom here. The tree peonies are beautiful plants and I have a client that collects them. They sold the property lat year and I should have taken photos after design six years ago because they really do make a show.

  6. So pretty and love that yellow! Peony blooms always remind me of my childhood. My small bushes have buds on them so soon, they will be giving me a little show. They have gotten smaller over the few years I have had them as they need to be moved to a more sunny spot. On the list of garden to do's...
