Who Misses Snow?!

My sister in Maine sent a few lovely pictures of some of the snow they are experiencing. Now I know we down here in the south and Tennessee live here for the weather and maybe not many people really miss the snow, but just in case you do, here is a great picture! Just look at how beautiful and white and crisp it all looks! Can you feel the cold? Even Tartarus, my sister's second 'son', is in a heavy sweater.

She actually took two pictures, this close up of 'Jack of All Trades' and Tartarus, and a further away picture. The further away picture shows her hydrangea which is toward the picture taker on the right side of the driveway. Her poor hydrangea had a bite taken out of it when Jack of All Trades plowed the driveway.

Now, I know this is a garden blog, but in my initial introduction I told you all I would talk about gardening, community, memories, life, people, and family. This picture is about my family. Jack of All Trades liked the close up picture better than the one showing the hydrangea, so to make him happy, I am using it!

Thanks Jack of All Trades for posing for the picture with Tartarus-we definitely needed you there to show everyone just how deep the snow is up there. Stay warm Mr. Heating and Cooling Man! And get ready for school in July maybe? Is it any wonder you all are having so many snow days?!

in the garden....thankful I don't have to shovel snow but enjoying it nonetheless!

  1. Wow that's a good bit of snow. I haven't seen it like that since I was in elementary school in Pennsylvania! Of course there was March of 1993 when we got 2 feet of snow in Johnson City, TN. It would be nice to have one major snowfall here in TN per year. When I say major I'm keeping it in a TN perspective. Only about 6-12" not the 3 or so feet in your picture!

  2. Wow, bringing back the memories of walking to school and not being able to see over the snowdrifts. And, yes we had school even when it snowed --unless it was a foot of snow they weren't calling it off, lol. Of course this was up north and they had tons of equipment to keep the roads open. It sure is pretty but I'll pass on the snow --give me some sunshine and warmer temperatures:)

  3. dave, you're from pennsylvania? what brings to down here? the military brought us. i'm with you, let's enjoy the snow from afar and one per year is enough.

anonymous, same here. passing on the snow. it sure is pretty in pictures but the people up north are so used to this way of life. not like us wanting warm weather everyday.

gee, if it gets to 35-40 in the winter we tend to whine. omg. same in the summer though. it gets hot, and we whine. what do we expect in summer and winter? cold and hot but no snow for us southerners except in limited quantities.

  5. Holy shovel full of snow. Guess I have been in deep South too long. Forgot it does get that deep. Hopefully not every yr. I use to live in N.Y. & I only remember it getting pretty deep { half way up doors on car} but not that deep. It does look pretty though. Looks are good but don't want to fight it every winter. I think us "Southerners" are a bit spoiled.

  6. dawn with peaches, you are so bad!

lola, we are spoiled and live down here for a reason! by choice-right? we can have a good laugh when the northerners get snow, but they laugh back when we sweat our butts off in hot humid summers.

  8. Neither Dawn. I was on and read the post this morning but been having trouble with my right hand.
    Just did'nt feel like typing.
Actually the typing does not bother too much but OMG...the mouse. The pain has been so bad that my mind just did'nt have it to think enough to figure out what I wanna say and type it. So if I am not too talkative for a couple of days that is why. Me? Not talk!!! What is this world coming to?

Got my seeds today Tina. Thanks. A couple I had not heard of so will look them up but like all the rest. I love cosmos and always used to plant em.

  9. Sorry, take ibuprofin, (sp) four of them, can go to 800mg every 6 hours, may have your bursitis (sp again!) acting up. It really hurts the hand.

  10. Get well Jean --you know I'm missing it when you don't post. I might not post as much but I do read whenever these kiddos give me a chance. Hi Tina, it was a busy day I didn't get to walk thru my yard today:( I was on a time crunch --one boy had to go to the school dance --and no it wasn't the oldest:0) hehehe I will have to get out back to check on those tulips, lilies and crocus --I can't miss it when they bloom --so I have to watch them closely. Night

  11. I have been taking ibuprofen (3 of them) every 4 horus but it takes about 20 mintues to notice a difference and then it only last about 15 mintues. Terrible! I think it is bursitis (not sure on sp with that either) or just a really bad flare up of that darn ole Mr. Art. I been tempted to take some oxicodone but it makes my heart race. Wish I had some Darvon as that always worked good on me.

BTY....All my son-in-laws are good looking!!!

  14. I grew up in South Western Pennsylvania in the Latrobe/Greensburg areas but my dad transferred jobs and got promotions that required we move. Before that dad was in the Air Force so we moved around quite a bit. I've been in Tennessee the longest of everywhere but my elementary years were in Pa. We're pretty happy here so I'm not looking to move back up there but I still identify with the people from Pennsylvania. Go Steelers! ;)

  15. Hope your pains lesson soon Jean! I enjoy your chit chat...

Beautiful snow Dawn with Peaches but you be sure to keep it up North! LOL... Poor Tartarus's butt looks cold! Hey, Jack of All Trades! Now we have a face with a name...

I spent a year in Colorado and also 6 years in Germany so I know all about snow! I think it is beautiful and enjoy watching it fall and build up on trees but hate the distress it causes when on the road. Too scary to drive in and ugly once it turns to slush along the roadsides too.

I don’t think I have had my heavy winter coat on since returning from Germany 7 years ago and I like it that way. I just don’t like the cold. Thank goodness for hot bubble baths in the winter and my gas heat! LOL…

  16. dave, go steelers huh? my sister and mother love the patriots. too bad on the super bowl. i don't have a preference but to each their own-even is you do live in tennessee!

skeeter, it almost looks like germany, doesn't it? i miss germany but can do without the snow (except every now and then). i am with you, scary to drive on it!

  17. Not to bad to drive today, roads have chunked ice area on them, (towns have ran out of salt) but upon coming home today, I noticed the roadside snowbanks are as high as the top of my suv. No kidding. Soooo no place to slip off, only to POOF into a cloud of snow. They have been working on cutting the banks back because another storm on Sunday. This is alot for us but the winters have been warm for the last two years. No school this week its vacation, thank god! not another snow day. Ps Tartarus's behind was cold! Nice day yesterday but he has the sitting to a science. He's such and nice dog.
Tina, Jack of all trade got a kick out of this.

  19. Hey Dave, you must have heard of Rolling Rock --my brother loves that stuff. Actually back home they had so many small breweries --I am sure most of them closed up but growing up in PA the older relatives --I guess I should clarify --the menfolk always had to have the special beer for the holidays and of course football season. I have no idea now since it's been so long since I lived there --sure do miss my Shoo-fly pie though. Hi Tina, sorry I missed you today --it was crazy.

  20. dawn with peaches, i liked your description of the snow-no where to slide off due to the plow banks. ha.

anonymous, what the heck is a shoo-fly pie? i am glad all is well.
