In my garden Cornus kousa 'Wolf Eyes' is not known for its blooms but lookout for the foliage! I must say I really like this little shrub. I have been growing this 'Wolf Eyes' for four or five years now and it is a little tree/shrub that I really love in my garden despite the fact it has not bloomed in two years. I think part of the problem with the non-blooming this year can be directly tied to the drought we had here in Middle Tennessee last summer. I'm not sure what the problem was last year though because we had a great summer in 2009. Sigh. It is still a keeper....

The handsome young man on the left is the girls younger brother Jimmy, then Christine (the oldest by one minute) then Elizabeth. Happy Birthday girls!
Thanks everyone for the kind words about our BJ. We miss him so very much.

The foliage on your tree/shrub does make it a keeper for sure....Happy Birthday to the twins...30 a great age!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mom!
ReplyDeleteEven if it doesn't bloom, the foliage on your Cornus is enough to make it stand out in your garden.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your daughters! I know you must be very proud of them. My daughter (the one who just got married) turns 30 in September--hard to believe how fast time flies, isn't it?
I like the looks of the shrub, even if it isn't blooming. Happy Birthday to your girls too!
ReplyDeleteThirty seems so young! I hope they have a great birthday!
ReplyDeleteThanks all!
ReplyDeleteLizabeth, Have a great day and nice celebration this weekend!
A very good looking shrub and an even better looking bunch of kids. Happy Birthday to the twins!
ReplyDeleteThe plant is pretty even without flower this year. Happy Birthday to the twins! Me and the twins are almost the same age.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rosey, 30 seems young! (and getting younger every year!)
ReplyDeleteLove the Wolf Eyes. Saw a nice specimen in Pam Harper's garden in Virginia, just amazing. Nice addition to your garden whether it blooms or not.
Nice colors even without blooms!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Christine and Elizabeth! Thirty is awesome...
I love your dogwood Tina It looks similar to mine, Cornus alba 'Argenteo-marginata'. Happy birthday to your girls.
ReplyDeleteThe wolf eyes does have very nice foliage. I wonder is the lack of sunshine at Tiger Gardens has something to do with the lack of blooms.
ReplyDeleteHelp me, where has that 30 years gone? I know I was some tired this time 30 years ago. Nana and I were at the Cape Fear Hospital in NC waiting for the news, as we had been doing all night. As was Nana and you (very tired). But Nana and I did not have the physical pain that you had. Christy went to the special care nursery so we did not see her for a few hours but when they placed Elizabeth in the regular nursery, Nana and I were in front of the viewing window and I just started crying. It may have been 30 years ago but I remember the feeling of love I felt at that first look like it was yesterday.
Have a wonderful big 3-0 girls. Loe you both mega bunches!!
*love*
ReplyDeleteMy 'Stellar Pink' dogwood tree hasn't had more than a couple of blooms for the past 2 years. I thought it was because it doesn't get enough sun, who knows. At least your wolf eyes has showy leaves! So nice.
ReplyDeleteWolf Eyes is very striking! You have 3 great looking kids in that picture and happy birthday to the twins.

ReplyDeleteVery pretty Dogwood! One of my Dogwoods (C florida) didn't bloom at all this year either and we had the opposite problem with weather. Wonder why?

ReplyDeleteDid I miss dear old BJ dying? How very sad although I'm sure his life with you was a happy one. My heart goes to you and your family.
What a great picture of the girls! Jimmy is very handsome too and I didn't realize how much taller he was. Them turning 30 brings me back....hearing the news at school and being so proud. I again admire your strenght with BJ - I really don't think I can face the day....Terri-Lynn (for my mom's benefit).
ReplyDeleteI'm quite envious! My wolf eyes didn't make it. Very sad.
