Rain Please

By SKEETERI need rain in my Georgia Gardens! It is so dry that I am seeing turtles moving around like never before. I assume they are looking for water and food. When I spot one such as this Box Turtle, I dig some worms from the compost pile and feed the critter. They suck them up like spaghetti!

I am dragging the hose around like a mad woman trying to keep my pretty blooms happy. Here is video clip of a Red Belly Woodpecker enjoying the sprinkle from the hose. I have never seen the Red Belly's at our birdbath or seeking water such as this year. On the Suet Pole, yes but not seeking water.

Our area is now in Drought 2 stage. So we really do need RAIN PLEASE, In the Garden...

  1. I'm so sorry for the stress your garden and critters are experiencing. I think I'll just spend a little time praying about that when I "sign off" here.

Things are about right for us here, I think. This morning I'm going to help a friend weed her vegetable garden...rain is predicted for tomorrow. The past couple of days have been cool. No complaints from me in the temperature department! I don't function well in heat and humidity.

  2. Skeeter,

We are in the same boat here in central NC. Over the weekend in could have rained 3 days, some got 3 inches. Here a tiny bit Friday night, a good rain Saturday night, missed us Sunday. Yesterday it was back to very dry.

  3. That was a great video of the woodpecker. I hope you get the rain you need. Seems the water is always coming to some areas and others really need it.

  4. I feel for you Skeeter. We have had terrible long droughts, and presumably will have them again. I love the video of the woodpecker, so cute. I also love how you serve the turtles spaghetti worm-iase.cheers, catmint

  5. We are in serious need of Vitamin G too! The birds around here are just letting the water from the sprinklers fall on them too.

  6. Great video, Skeeter; this poor guy must really be thirsty. I do hope you get some rain soon; it's been such a stormy spring here that we have had more than our share of rain at times. If I could, I would sure send some of these raindrops your way!

  7. Feeding the turtle a worm was a nice idea...am sure he loved it! Hot and dry here as well. The storms either slide to our north or south....missing us entirely.

  8. You are so kind to be helping out the garden visitors there. I've never seen a woodpecker do anything like that before. Here we are still waiting for it to warm up and dry out. Our ground has been wet since last fall. Wish we could trade a little heat for a little rain.

  9. Good morning all. I forgot to mention that we have been in the mid 90's and even hit 100 a couple of times the past 20 days! It is bone dry and what little sprinkles we get, soak right into the ground and dont do much of anything. Come on rain....

So much going on in my home and I continue to attempt to be free of neck pain but finding little ease as more to do each day. Urg....

    Everyone have a good morning...

  12. Skeeter the turtles also like meat as in steak or hanburg, hot dogs and so on. One of Terri-Lynn's had a trutle for years and that is what they used to feed it. I can't remember if it was raw or cooked but I think it was raw. You are alsways so good to the wildlife. You go girl!

The video is great. I put it to full screen the second time I watched it and I was not sure if he was trying to drink or was playing with the water. I know you have birdbaths so he does have water to drink.

  13. Good luck getting some moisture! We're still having plenty of rain, wish we were having some warmer temps so things could grow instead of sitting there.

  14. We are experiencing drought, too. That was nice of you to feed the turtle some worms. I worry about all the wildlife, not only finding water, but food, too, as the plants all dry up.

  15. Afternoon all.
Skeeter that is great you feeding the turtle. The video was wonderful. I have birds playing in the sprinkler as it's so hot.
We did get a thunder storm yesterday. Lots of rain but very hard. Some did soak into the ground.
Needless to say my newly planted carrot seeds are bye-bye. I had planted them with the tomato plants I set out.
I keep trying with seeds & plants to see what I get.

  16. That red bellied woodpecker is having a ball! You are ever so nice to provide a shower for him. I so hope you get rain soon. It's been raining here on and off. A wonderful treat in June and I'm pushing it your way....

  17. Afternoon everyone! I finished sanding the walls and then out to the gardens to water and pull weeds. Weeds grow when nothing else will without rain, ha... It was not too bad out there today, still in the 90's but no humidity and a nice breeze. I enjoyed myself and seem to work out the pain for now. I am sure the minute I sit down I will stiffen up again. Now off to clean up the sanded mess then make dinner. Hopefully, we can get the plastic off the doorway tomorrow....

Jean, The woodpecker was taking a bath and getting a sip now and then as well. Many of the birds enjoy the sprinkler with taking baths. I keep water in the 4 birdbaths also but they enjoy the sprinkling water for some reason…

    Have a good evening....

  19. The things we take for granted, huh? If I could send you some of our rain, believe me, I would. Time to do the Noah Dance!

  20. Yeah, I want to keep abrest of what the weather is going to be like for the next week.

It was so nice today, but in my moving, my garden might inadvertently get a little neglected.

    :(
