BY SKEETER
A year ago, I added Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) to my Georgia Gardens.
I found these bargain plants in colors of Pink, White and Lavender.
I could not make up my mind which color to purchase.
At the bargain price of $9.99 for 3 gallon pots, well, I picked up one of each color.
These beautiful plants have survived their first year in my gardens and I think they will do well for me. They are giving me a show of blooms and I am really enjoying them.
I spotted a deer nibbling on one of them but she took one nibble and then moved on. I will be keeping smelly scent on these beauties for now to keep them at bay. I am happy with my 3 shades of ROSE OF SHARON, In the Garden...

I like them! I have a couple also. I've seen them trimmed up to look like a tree and am thinking about doing that....Do you trim YOURS?
ReplyDeleteThose are absolutely lovely. It's nice that you were able to get three different colors.

Rebecca, They are still young for now so not too tall. I dont plan to trim them up though. I want them to grow natural...
ReplyDeleteFlowerlady, I was tickled to see them in 3 colors so had to go for it. I love thier long bloom time...
I wish more people would plant this old-fashioned favorite. There are few shrubs that give you so much color during the hot summer.
ReplyDeleteMy problem is, I'm just running out of room. They certainly are lovely though...
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely and your pictures beautiful! You have a rainbow in your garden!
ReplyDeleteFunny, I just did a post about Rose of Sharon in my California garden. Here the plant will live through the snow. Of course, our plant was $34 for so I have gardener envy right now! Ha ha
ReplyDeleteI am very envious of your new plants. I need to find a place for rose of Sharon in my garden.
ReplyDeleteI love Roase of Sharon and almost bought one last year but after my neighbors bloomed last summer, I just knew I had to have one so bought one this past spring. I got a smaller one so it will take years to be as big as my neighbors. Hers is at least 8 feet tall and is the pink. I got the one that has the 3 colors on it and I am not sure those do as well so plan on getting one next spring with just 1 color on it. You are soooo very, very lucky to get them for the price you did!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors of yours! My neighbor had several that created a small grove by her driveway. She gave me a few seedpods and I was able to get one to grow. It's almost a year old now, but still small. I love to see it growing and can hardly wait to see it bloom! I love hibiscus and have them all over the yard.
ReplyDeleteI Love the white one,I have never seen one in that color. I have salmon and bright pink in my garden which I am trying to grow into a hedge.

Lovely blooms, Skeeter! I've mostly seen them in pink, so my eye was drawn to the white and purple ones. A wise choice to buy all three--a lovely combo of colors.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great deal. I like all the colors. We use to have the lavender color at the old place. I sure wish I had the room here to have all of them.
ReplyDeleteGood evening everyone. I have been having computer issues today so hit the yard running. Mostly tending to weeds as they took off after our 3 inches of rain fall last week. Pop up storms are all around us each evening but skipping us as normal. I shall get to your blogs to visit tomorrow. That is, if the computer is still hanging in there....
ReplyDeleteGorgeous...I am waiting for my hardy hibiscus to bloom
ReplyDeleteI just bought a Rose of Sharon, love those blooms. The white one is very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI planted a Rose of Sharon about three years ago and I have not gotten any blooms....what am I doing incorrectly?
ReplyDeleteI have not gotten any blooms to my Rose of Sharon since I planted three years ago....why?
ReplyDeleteNot sure Isa Gee. Rose of Sharon generally likes full sun, rich soil to regular soil, and regular moisture. If you have all of those then check for a root problem to see if there is an issue there. In my experience Rose of Sharons bloom well with no help from anyone but do not like shade. Good luck.
