A 'Darling' of a Daisy and a Friend

Ever heard of a 'Darling' of a Daisy? I hope not-as I just made it up. No, actually there is a shasta daisy (aka Leucanthum x superbum) cultivar named 'Darling'. I picked mine up last summer in the clearance section of Lowes Garden Center for $1. What a bargain and what a darling!

This daisy is a dwarf daisy and is an early bloomer. The other shasta daisies I grow here (Alaska, Becky, and Snow Lady) do not bloom until early summer. This darling has been going strong for several weeks and looks to bloom and bloom and bloom. It is a an excellent plant in a full sun area where you'd like a smaller shasta daisy as it only grows to about 12" tall.

in the garden....

Speaking of darlings, my friend Skeeter is a real darling! She heard I had my first garden client, and also that I don't have business cards, so she went out and got me a business card holder-a bit of motivation. It's perfect! I promise I will fill it up soon Skeeter and thank you so much!

I'll be posting my choice for Plant of the Month on Monday, due to Mother's Day this Sunday. I want to wish all a very happy and special day! You all have a great weekend.

  1. Tina, I will have to look for this daisy. I am not fond of the taller ones as they tend to fall over and look messy. But this shorter one would be useful in so many areas of the garden. Thanks, for showing these.

What a wonderful gift. I am sure you will enjoy it and think of the giver everytime you use it.

  8. The only shasta daisy I've had much success with is "Becky"; I'll have to look for this one.
How sweet of Skeeter to get this case for you--it's so pretty with the dragonfly on it. Congratulations and good luck with your first client, Tina!

  11. What pretty daisies. They always look good with any flowers planted around them.

  13. That is a sweet one! I'm going to look for that one. The ones I had always flopped over and became infested with bugs. Is that common for all daisys? I haven't tried any since.
I love your business card holder. It's perfect for a garden coach!

  15. Congratulations on your first client! A blogger I used to work with, nubbytwiglet.com, reccommends getting business cards from http://www.overnightprints.com/

Their site looks a little cheesy, but she says they're good and consistent (and she is a a designer with impeccable taste, so I take her word for it), and you can order runs as small as 25 cards.
I also know people who have made Moo cards, and they're very happy with them. They have a 50 card starter pack. http://www.moo.com/en/products/packsize.php?type=businesscard

  17. What a busy day and even busier night for us here! (My excuse for being on late and for not responding individually-I am swamped).

These shastas will NOT flop! Even with all the rain they are upright and perky just like in the picture and the picture was taken prior to the rain. These are gorgeous-not at all like the other shastas. It is reputed 'Becky' is the best upright shasta for the south, but in my experience, they all flop. Not the 'Darling'. You can't beat it with a stick.

Dawn, You are not to blame at all, the post posted incorrectly. I had to go into edit mode and it is still is not quite right, but will do for now.

Mom, Have a safe trip and great visit with the girls.

Meghan, I am going to check out their website. I am SUCH a procrastinator with finals and my garden, but need to get some soonest! Thanks so much!

Everyone have a great day. I'll be trying to mow my lawn in between storms and working on my final project which was due at noon. He has extended us. Whew!

Beautiful Daisy. Will have to see if I can find one here & see if it will live here.
Great gift Skeeter. I know it will be used many times.
Wishing all the Mothers a "Happy Mother's Day" on Sunday.

  20. Since you said these Shastas do not flop from mass rain maybe I should try them too. Nice size and I need some Daisies. Do I dare admit I don't have any? Before shooting me - in my own defense I usually buy the African Daisies each year as annuals.
Beautiful business card holder. How nice of Skeeter to get that for your new position?

  21. Surprises come in small packages! :-) Dont ya just love a surprise??? tee hee. Now get those business cards ordered woman! lol...

The Daisy is a darling and what a bargain! I love the back rack in Lowes and run to it before looking at any other flowers when in the garden center. lol I found a great bargain also last fall and was not expecting much but was I pleasantly surprised. I will share that at some point...

We hope to get the boat on the lake some time this weekend but the weather will dictate which day. The other day will be for some yard work in betweens showers. We are sure getting the rain lately. I may not have much of a veggie garden but the lake is full so boat rides galore this summer....

Tonight, is dinner and dancing with friends!

    Have a good weekend everyone!
