'Ivory Prince' Hellebore
Of all the hellebores blooming in Tiger Gardens my favorite has to be 'Ivory Prince'. Ivory Prince is a special one for its upright facing blooms that look like glowing bouquets of posies that one would carry down an aisle. The foliage is very strong as well. It is of course evergreen but it appears to have a stronger volition that most hellebores. It holds up well to the elements and almost always looks good-even without trimming.
Located in a raised front garden in nearly full shade these hellebores are carefree. They never need watering or fertilizing. They simply ask for an organically rich soil and a bit of mulch. Looking out my front living room windows my eyes are always drawn to these glowing hellebores.
If you ever run across the 'Ivory Prince' cultivar of hellebores don't pass up a chance to pick up a few. I purchased mine several years ago at a local big box store for about $1 per when they were marked down. In the four years or so that these hellebores have been growing here I have not seen any seedlings. I believe the best way and probably the only way to propagate these flowers is through division. They are definitely a plant that is a must have in any shady garden....

Pretty pretty pretty! I now have two and they are doing great with little care just as you say. I love those things!
ReplyDeleteEveryone have a nice weekend full of gardening...
They are very pretty. I wonder if they wouldgrow up here. I will have to check it out as I am planning on getting a bunch of shade plants to put out under the honeysuckle at the end of the house. I have ordered a couple but will need more. Actually I should really divide all the hosta and then I would have more than enough.
ReplyDeleteOh, they're lovely! They really do light up the area. $1 !!!! What a great deal!
ReplyDeleteI echo HolleyGarden, what a great deal! Like how you are able to have them in the raised bed by the front edge so they are seen. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a fabulous find for only a dollar. I have quite a few plants that I bought late in the season marked down that are starting to come up. The only problem is I don't remember what they were, I never wrote them down!! I am in for a surprise soon! :)
ReplyDeleteYou have spring in Tennessee...we are two months behind.Your Ivory Princes are so beautiful<3
ReplyDeleteWhat a great buy! They are very pretty. I need to plant more of these beautiful flowers!!
ReplyDeleteI love the green blooms of this one...I will look for it!
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to shop where you do!
ReplyDeleteI love the way this cultivar holds its blooms upright. The only reason I don't have more hellebores than I do is because they're so expensive in our garden centers--if I found some for $1, I'd buy out the whole rack!
