Look what I spotted on the roadside. Yep, some ding-a-ling had discarded these old ladder back chairs right on the side of the road. Difficult for me to believe such things still happen in this year 2012...
I passed them by several days before getting the notion to clear the county right of way of this debris.
The Saint was kind enough to toss them into the back of the truck and bring them to our Georgia Gardens... Too old to sit upon but not to old to recycle into a thing of beauty. I failed to snap a picture of the chairs alone after I had worked my magic on them.
But here they are with a fresh coat of red paint. They are now on display in my woods to greet everyone that drives past our house.
The bunny's clothes were bargain finds at the Goodwill store.
I always have fun picking out the decor for the woods display and had wanted to add chairs to change it up a bit from the hay bales. What luck that the awful person that tossed these chairs on the roadside, tossed them near my home! Now I need to find a discarded table but hopefully, not tossed on the roadside.
Look what else we spotted over the weekend. Our first Copperhead snake in the garden!
Since this one is poisonous, we feared risk to the neighbor kids, cats, dogs, horse's and yes, ME too! So we killed this one. Sorry Mr. Snake but your triangle head really did give me the creeps when snakes normally do not bother me at all. I like my new CHAIRS BUT NOT THIS SNAKE, In the Garden...

What a great find those chairs were. They make a nice addition to your happy garden display.
ReplyDeleteYikes, a copperhead, not a nice snake in the gardens.
Have a great week ~ FlowerLady
I thought of your junking when i spotted these beauties! My thought was, do you and your DH find such things just tossed on the side of the road or do you have such a day as Junking Day where folks put items on the street for pick up????
DeleteOh yes, that snake was not a nice snake to find...
Adorable chairs!! The snake? Not so much! I'm glad ya'll killed him.
ReplyDeleteThe chairs were a great find but still boggles my mind as to why someone would just toss them on the side of a country road.... Maybe for someone like me to find them. Ha.... We so hated to kill the snake but after some thought, we decided the best thing....
DeleteGreat find with the chairs, but not with that snake!
ReplyDeleteThe chairs made me smile the snake made me gulp! No more snake....
DeleteSkeeter,
ReplyDeleteCute chairs. Most say it is ok to kill Copperheads, they can reproduce in one year. Rattle Snakes on the other hand, it is best if possible to leave them alone or re locate them. They take 5 years before reproducing, a much longer cycle.
I was afraid to report that we killed this snake for someone not being happy with me. But after thinking upon it a bit, I decided that it was our choice so we killed it and I posted on it. We have only seen one rattlesnake and this one copperhead. If only we had experience with catching poisonous snakes, then we would have caught it and relocated it. But with our lack of experience, it had to die. We could have called Animal Control as they are just up the street but it was over the weekend and they were closed. I will call them to see what they suggest if we run across another poisonous snake. But hopefully, this is our last one in the garden...
DeleteThose chairs look SO good now that they are painted such a pretty red! That triangular head is a sure giveaway and your photo shows it well. It was a big one too and I'm glad it is gone now.
ReplyDeleteThe chairs were a lucky find and I had bright red paint in mind from the get go. I liked the rustic look of them but they would not have shown up so well being in the woods. The snake, well, this one will not harm anyone. I just hope we do not start to see more poisonous snakes in our gardens as they freak me out. But as I mentioned above to Randy, I shall call animal control for advice...
DeleteThose chairs have found a great new life, good for you girl!! They look great so for once the jerk that threw them away did you, the people that drive by your display and the landfill a real favor. He still is a jerk because if he did that, lord only knows what else he does in his terrible life.
ReplyDeleteI usually do not mind snakes either as they have their place in our world but that is easy for me to say since we do not have poisonous up here. I would not want one around that is poisonous at all. Glad you did not get bitten before getting rid of that one.
Yep, my thoughts exactly on the Jerk and the chairs! We felt the same about the snake too. The Saint was relocating it and it jumped off the rake and that is when I decided it had to die. I feared him or me getting bitten while trying to relocate it. I have never been freaked out by a snake as much as this one. I am still waiting for the nightmare about it....
DeleteWhat cute chairs! I can't believe people would throw those out. They look great as part of your Easter display.
ReplyDeleteThat snake would freak me out! We don't see snakes around here, although growing up here we used to catch garter snakes.
It boggles my mind as to why people dump on the roadside or litter at all! But my gain in this case. The bunnys are going to stay out year round with a different display. This display is just a little spring/Summer. The next display shall be bunnys enjoying some 4th of July decor. I just hope that mildew does not take over the bunnys... Lucky you to not see snakes! When we lived in Germany, we never feared them when walking in the woods as they do not have them either. Never saw a snake in the 6 years we lived there and we were in the woods often. We mostly avoid our woods in the warmer months...
DeleteWhat a great find. Must watch what else this neighbor might throw out. That red sure shows up in your fantastic wood display. Love it. Not the Snake.
ReplyDeleteI use to be able to put that kind of bottom in chairs but have not done it in so long that I have forgotten how. Sure wish I could remember how.
Oh Lola, I think that is a lost art! I remember the Cane back rockers and chairs. Dont see many of them any more. I was wondering if these were some really old antique chairs as i was painting them. With my luck, they were some rare chair that I basically destroyed.... LOL....
ReplyDeleteGood reuse of the chairs.
ReplyDeleteA copperhead in the garden would make me nervous too.
Love the red chairs! Glad you were able to get the snake...poisonous ones are scary.
