I told you about our wonderful Spring Type weather on Tuesday. It continues to be warm here in my Georgia Gardens and the temp is currently 65 degrees at 6:00am this morning. The front has finally started to move our way and we slept with the windows open again last night and I fell asleep to the sound of gentle rain falling. The temps should drop as the day continues and we are expecting a temp of 39 degrees by tomorrow morning. Not good as I have things blooming as I type this morning. Just look what all I spotted while out in the garden the past few days! Tina, remember this pretty plant you saw when you visited us back in November? Well, here she is continuing to bloom.
This beauty continues to bloom that you saw back in November as well! Susan in January, imagine that.
On the East side of the house the Purple Queen is hanging on and showing new growth as well as some blooms.
I love the Queen's tiny blooms.
Spring bloomers one expects to see in spring but not in January.
Such warmth in the air and soil that the Bridal Wreath is showing a few blooms.
Wild Violets are blooming all over the Wishing Well Garden.
I do not know how the Violets got there but I enjoy these little flowers so they shall stay where ever nature places them.
Phlox in pink is opening up.
Phlox in white and purple is opening as well.
And look at this crazy Yellow Iris! Could that be blooms trying to spring up in January? Yes, the same Yellow Iris that bloomed during Summer and Fall. Is this a year round Iris? Ha... The Camellia bushes continue to bloom as well and have been since late October being the longest bloom time I have had for them. I failed to snap a pic of them though.
The Rye Grass looks ever so green and lush after I mowed it Tuesday. I had to get the Weed eater out as well due to weeds starting to pop up around the edges of the gardens. I plan to stay on top of the weeds as spring arrives this year as they really got away from me last spring. With our mild winter thus far, no reason why I should not be out each day plucking them. Yesterday, I was out spraying down the siding to the house and also cleaning the windows while wearing shorts. It was another day of near 80 degree temps but today is another day and the rain falls and temps are dropping which shall keep me back inside tending to house chores. I hope all survives the wrath of mother nature. I have enjoyed our little 7 day SPRING BREAK, In the Garden...

Your gardens and blooms are oh so lovely. Hope you don't suffer any major losses with the cold weather coming your way.

Flowerlady, I am a bit concerned about the plants that are already showing blooms but Mother Nature has a way of taking care of her own so I have faith there will be many blooms come the Real Spring...
DeleteSkeeter...your garden is so beautiful. The flowers you have blooming are amazing...and how about that iris...crazy!! I had two last year that bloomed in fall! Only flowers I don't like are those wild violets. About six years ago a couple came up in my garden...don't know how they got there. I thought they were pretty so I let them stay. Those two turned into hundreds taking over everywhere and I'm having a tough time getting rid of them.
ReplyDeleteChristy, thos violets popped up on their own just as in your gardens. I was thinking about removing them when I first spotted them but I think they are so darn cute. They seem to die out during the heat of summer so I have yet to pull them up. But I am noticing many more each year...
DeleteIt looks like spring in your garden! That rudbeckia was and still is a keeper! Enjoy the good weather. It has been winter here. The Bridal Wreath is GORGEOUS!
ReplyDeleteIt has been spring for sure Tina but Winter shall be back by afternoon. Right now the windows are open but they soon will be closed, sigh. I have really enjoyed this little break as it has kept the Winter Blues away from my body. Hopefully, all will be okay with the cold temps...
DeleteHere in the Memphis area we had several days of 60's and 70's last week, but each day except one involved lots of rain (5 inches in January so far!), then a change to freezing rain and sleet culminating in an ice storm on Tuesday -- and now back to plain January cold. Which is actually good (much as I miss the warm and "spring break" -- a few days longer and everything would be seriously breaking dormancy -- including the early blooming tulip magnolias, and we surely would have lost everything to a freeze and had nothing for true spring. I've got flower buds on daffodils. Last year they bloomed at a record early date of late January. We'll see what happens this year. Normally they bloom around the 2d or 3d week of February.
ReplyDeleteDiana, you too had a nice little Spring Break but as you say, good thing it did not last too long. I am afraid it lasted too long here and we shall loose somethings. But I leave nature to take care of its own and I dont worry about such things as life is too darn short. I talked to my mom in Clarksville last night and she tells me they missed the big ice storm but enjoyed some snow dusting just the same. I am sure I shall see a daffy soon even in this cool snap as our cool snap is not as bad as TN...
DeleteThink our spring has ended....into swamp season. Love wild violets....hope I have some in my garden this year.
ReplyDeleteYes, Janet, It seems to be over. I had the windows open for most of the day but had to finally close them around 5:00. I enjoyed the fresh air but with the rains, I was kept inside to do some house cleaning. Now the house looks and smells great but soon the fireplace will be putting off a nice scent in the house...
DeleteIt doesn't take long to go from shirt sleeves to heavy coats in January! It was fun while it lasted. Your rye grass will probably welcome some cool weather to keep it from going into seed mode.
ReplyDeleteNell Jean, It is fun living in the Deep South! I love the mild winters we get down here and I am really getting use to that and not so sure I will ever leave GA. I just wish we could get out of that darn drought mode. Yes, the grass will enjoy the cooler temps. You posted on your Rye a long time ago and that was my motivation to sow it ever since! Thanks for that Posting as I really do enjoy that beautiful green in the winter...
DeleteLoved all your spring photos!! No chance of that here yet!!
ReplyDeleteCherry,Your time will come. Early spring is one advantage of living in GA as you should know by being here yourself once. I love the mild winters and could not imagine living somewhere with lots of cold, freezing temps now. I have become spoil to this climate and love it...
DeleteWow! I can not believe how mild a winter you are having - and all the blooms already! Our winter has been fairly cold, and I would love a warm 65 degree day or two. However, it always worries me when things bloom so early that they will get hit by a late freeze. I hope that doesn't happen to you.
ReplyDeleteMowing lawns and seeing violets...ahh spring in the NE...thanks for the memory
ReplyDeleteLooks good Skeeter. You have quite a garden there. I know you put a lot of work into it. Sure wish I could work in mine like I use to.
