Mild Winter

BY SKEETER
These Doves are enjoying a sip of water from one of many bird baths we have here in my Georgia Gardens. Our flock of Dove never seem to grow beyond about a dozen or so. The resident Hawk, sees to that. Click HERE to see the hawk. I spotted the Hawk with a squirrel in its talons as it flew off into the woods this past weekend. Poor Squirrel but one less to dig in my gardens. Such is the cycle of life.
Well, hello there Miss Sunshine!
Even though I feel the Narcissus and Daffodil's are opening up early, looking back to last years files, I see they are blooming about the same time. Although, last year we had an early spring as it seems we may repeat this year as well.
Crocus are new to my gardens this year.
They are popping up along with weeds. Weeds=Not Good...
I planted 265 bulbs of Narcissus, Daffy's, Crocus and Muscari using my trusty Auger/Drill.
The Lilies are popping up and I hope they are not bit by Mr. Jack Frost in the coming weeks.
This Lily is way beyond where she should be. I have yet to clean this planter so the old remains.
The Camellia's have never bloomed so long for me!
They started blooming in late Oct and continue to give me blooms today. I really do enjoy these beauties as they are at the front door and we see them every time we go outside.
Yep, we are having another MILD WINTER, In the Garden...

  1. Mild winters seem to be the norm the last few years. I hope we don't get a really cold one as that would be a shock to all the plants. What a pretty camellia! Glad to hear the auger worked. It's a pretty big one and looks like it would do the job.

    1. Yes Tina the auger works but I am thinking of trying your shovel method with the next batch as my back may enjoy that more so then the bending with the auger...

  2. Hi Skeeter....Your pictures are beautiful! I really like the auger, I need to get one because we are planting zoisia plugs this year. An auger would make it so much easier. Today we are going to be in the 70s, but also have tornadoe threat...:-( Have a good day!

    1. Christy, I believe that weather is headed our way as well. The warm and cool dont mix when it comes to rain. We need the rain so looking forward to that but not the winds that may accompany the rain...

  3. Skeeter I'm thinking weather is going to get us in February. You know, I heard all last summer how this was going to be a much colder winter than we have had in years and I have yet to see it. I remember as a kid it would get so cold water would spew out of the ground and freeze and I would walk around before school cruching it while I waited on the bus. And that was over a hundred miles further south than here. It's been years since we've had bitter cold winters.

    1. Randy, I remember those winters as well. Then, I was in Tennessee where Tina lives but we are not that far from TN as the Jet Stream Flows. We were out of school due to ice and snow for a month one year. So long that we had to go to school on Saturdays to make up the lost time. That was no fun for a kid although the sledding in the snow was fun! We have lived here in GA now for 13 years and it seems to be more milder each year. I do fear the bugs this summer with little to no freezing temps two years in a row. Last year the crickets, grasshopper and spider were horrible! Plus we are so lacking rain in our neck of the woods. Our lake is 15 feet low and already this year we are over 3 inches behind. Geesh, this is tough on a gardener but there is always hope...
