Spiders

By SKEETER
This Garden Spider has been living in my Georgia Gardens for some time. I keep an eye on it when I am near the Semi-Formal Garden area where her web is located.
This Argiope aurantia has really gotten fat lately. Hum, I wonder if this is a female and she is full of eggs or just a well fed spider?
This one showed up a few days ago and moved nearby the fat spider. This one has a sac of some type in its legs. I was thinking maybe a sac of baby spiders.
But after reading a bit on this spider at this Link: Click HERE. I think that maybe this spider has a meal waiting for it inside a silk pouch. I am seeing more and more of these beautiful SPIDERS, In the Garden...

  2. We have had more spiders like this in our gardens this year too. Wonder if the drought has anything to do with that?

  3. I'm so glad you posted this! I've been seeing these more and more lately too. I have to watch where I walk in the garden. They can get really really huge. Good thing they are harmless to us. Although my older son did not think so and made me take away one that was in the way of where he was working. I still tease him about it after these past 10 years. I hope they are catching all the mosquitoes-which have been very bad.

  4. Good Morning!

Racquel, I do love these spiders and their colors are just awesome.....

Darla, Not only more spiders but grass hoppers as well. I am seeing tons of them this year…

Tina, How funny that memory of the big ole scary spider. LOL. They are not eating many mosquitoes in my gardens as the drought seems to be keeping them at bay. That is one good thing to a drought but I will take mosquitoes any day over a drought and dragging the hose around….

  5. I think spiders are interesting, too, especially the orb weavers. I love those zig-zag filaments.

  8. I like having spiders around to do their thing and that one is a really pretty one. Inscets and bugs never bothered me and I usually can see some beauty in all of them. I have had to pick some tomato worms this year and their green color and the yellow on them is just stunning colors. I read the onfo to the link and it was interesting. Funny how they wait a few hours to eat, maybe they have to "cure" their meat. LOL

  9. Hello all.
We have these spiders also but haven't seen any yet this yr. They do seem to come around when it's heading toward Fall, hurricane season & mosquito time. Sometimes their webs are very large causing one to be very careful.

  11. Hi Tina, that spider has lovely colors. We have also same colors here but the body is long and they make their webs high up the trees. We are scared of them as their webs are so sticky. I also posted some long ago here.
