Baby Robin Fights Back and Stands Its Ground

DSCN1931

Being the proud owner of three dogs is not without its downfalls. One of those downfalls is when the dogs tangle with the wildlife here in Tiger Gardens. Recently I went to let the dogs out the back door onto the deck and they were most excited and ready to go too. Then all of a sudden I heard some chirping and a bunch of excitement from the dogs. Acting quickly I ran outside to find a baby robin tangled in some screening on the deck and it was in its fighting mode trying to hold off three large dogs-and it was winning! Jimmy was with me and quickly scooped up the bird to safety while I gathered the dogs and put them back inside the house. Isn't the baby robin cute? We let it go and that is the last we have seen of it. Lately it seems baby robins are everywhere in the garden so we really have to be careful not only with the dogs but on where we walk and mow....

in the garden....

Any close encounters with wildlife in your garden?

  1. Tina,

This is cool you saved it. We have a big rabbit in the garden now, no worries about the dogs for it. Our cat on the other hand might try to kill it, but it is as big as her.

    1. Randy, I bet that cat won't even come close to the big rabbit. It seems the cats tend to pick on the little bunnies for some reason-the helpless babies.

  2. Tina,,, I have a mockingbirds nest not 5 feet from my front door... and tho I really tried to discourage it from nesting there( tore its nest out 5 times a day for 4 or 5 days) the birds eventually won...and now I am dive bombed every time I go out the door.. seems like they are tag teaming me, lol,,,I now have someone keep watch when I have to check on plants etc in my yard,, which isnt big to begin with .. Dont know if these same birds nested there last year,, but had same problem then.. Is exciting to watch them feed the babies,, but I want my porch back,, lmao PS.. saw my first hummingbird on Thursday!!! Hope they keep warm during this cold spot!!! Terrie

    1. Terrie, That would be so fun to watch! I have not seen any hummers here yet but will keep a watch for them now that you've seen one. It is cold this morning and all weekend. Can't figure it out.

  4. Tina and the Jimster to the rescue! Poor little baby bird but putting up a fight against 3 big furballs. You Go little Robin! LOL. Boy did we have a close encounter with the wild over the weekend. Our first copperhead that I shall post about tomorrow. Ick.... The wind just knocked over the awning at the patio. Crazy Weather has brought coolness and high winds to my GA Garden....

  6. Kudos to the both of you! We seen baby Northern Cardinals learning how to fly over the weekend. The hummers are weaving in and out of our front porch like crazed birds. We have a hummer feeder at each end of the porch and one across the driveway in the pear tree...the hummer traffic gets quite busy on overcast and rainy days.

  7. Tina girl that was amazing you got to it in time to help it out. And yes they are sweet little things.
We have a robin nesting on top of our deck side touching the eve .. I keep my fingers crossed with this wicked weather that has moved in .. that any babies that might be around will be alright.
It is a let down to be dumped in winter weather after such wonderful weather .. Spring is not being nice this year ! LOL

  8. You and Jimmy are heros!

We have so many nesting birds - wrens, purple finch, mockingbirds and bluebirds.

The bunnies haven't shown up yet, but last year a baby bunny "imprinted" on me and followed me around the garden all the time! She'd roll over on her back, but I refused to rub her tummy!

A fawn was left beneath my clumping bamboo last summer while the doe went out for the day. I am not a fawn sitter! The fawn and doe weren't afraid of me, but when Richard came around to look at the baby, it ran away! LOL
