Husker Red Beard Tongue (Type: Herbaceous, Family: Scrophulariaceae) is putting on a show for me right now.
The stems of Green and Deep Red are pretty enough but the late spring blooms are an eye catcher as well.
I added this plant a few years ago and it has dealt with Soggy and Drought conditions, heat of the summer and freezing cold as well. It will grow 2-3 feet tall and 1-2 feet wide while in the full sun. 
It is hardy in zones 3-8 and attracts Butterflies but does not seem to attract the deer or rabbits. That is always a plus in my woodsy garden! I basically planted Red Beard and have left it alone. I don't fertilize it or anything. I just let nature takes its course as I do with most my plants.
