Boating....In the Garden

Do you suppose Orkin is a happy cat? Here she is just lazing about on this winter day, dreaming of taking the boat for a spin. This is the same boat pictured in yesterday's post. The boat does occasionally go to the lake, sans Orkin, but mainly it just blocks the view of the Perennial Garden:( Anyhow, Orkin sure loves the boat and she has truly claimed it as her own. When she is not sleeping on top of the cover, she is under the cover inside of the boat. It is a safe place for her and probably keeps her warm too. I think she was up here in order to get a better view of the birds frequenting the nearby crabapple tree. She is one smart cat.

You will probably never guess what name Mr. Fix-it gave to his boat, but-are you ready for this? He aptly named his boat "The Cat House". How funny is that? Any other funny boat or car names out there?

in the garden....dreaming of boating. Y'all have a great weekend.

  1. Classic name. We have a neighbour whose children are the street's menaces. His boat is called, quite aptly, "Naughty Boyz".

  2. No recent names but I called my Camero "The Beast." Because it was.

  3. Hi Tina, Orkin is master of the boat and garden too is seems. Ast name and we love Mr. Fixit's sense of humor!

  4. Cute post! No funny names here or at least can't think of one now...but loved the photo of Orkin on 'The Cat House'!

  5. Cute name Tina--how perfect!
You have a good weekend too!

  6. Stuart, Naughty Boyz is another good one! Especially with the history of his kiddos.

Dawn, The Beast huh? Must've been a rough one.

Frances, You get the other meaning for the name too huh? It is too funny. Mr. Fix-it is a jokester at times.

Kanak, Doesn't she look happy? I couldn't help but snap the picture as she rarely gets up there like that. Glad you liked it.

Linda, Yup, it surely fits the boat and the husband too.

  7. We don't have a boat, we have a tandem kayak. It doesn't have a name, but there's a bumper sticker that I want for it:

"Paddle faster, I hear banjo music"

  8. Did Mr. Fixit name the boat before or after the girlie girls with the belly button rings picked him up??? tee hee....

Our Boat is named, "Liquid Asset" fiting since we took money out of savings to purchase her....

Calling for 85 degrees here today! Is it December or what?

  9. Now that Cameron mentions it, "Deliverance" would be an excellent name. Instead of banjo music spurring us on in our tandem kayak, though, we would be hearing alligators sliding into the water. Tell Mr. Fix-It his choice of names sounds better (and probably smells better) than Mouse-House, which is what one of our boats in the past became one winter.

  10. I bet Mr. Fix-it gets some strange looks when he goes boating:) We don't have a boat, so the only strange names here are the cats' names. How did Orkin come by his name?

  11. No funny names to share today but Orkin does look happy there!

  12. I forgot to say good morning-so here it is Good morning!

Cameron, You must like banjo music very much. That is a funny bumper sticker. I hope you get one as everyone would get a good smile from that.

Skeeter, You know he named it AFTER the girls on the lake with the belly bling. Ha! The real cat was just an extra incentive. Liquid Asset is a good one too....

Walk2Write, I am for sure going to tell Mr. Fix-it about Mouse House. In fact, he needs to look at this post and all the fun comments. He'll love it. We hope there are no mice in the boat but that may be why Orkin likes it so much...

Rose, Yes, lots of funny looks but mainly because we are broken down on the lake or being towed by ladies with belly bling:) Orkin got her name from a former neighbor. She was a stray who lived by his house and I saw her one day catching bugs. I asked about her and he said she was Orkin-Pest Control and a stray. He warned me not to feed her or she would not be such a good pest control cat. Of course I did not take his advice and now she is forever mine, the name stuck. We love it. She still is a great pest control cat too. I haven't seen a single chipmunk on my porch WHILE I am sitting there since she came to live here. A good thing. Thanks for asking. It is not my favorite name for a cat, but made it simple for us. We love her.

Dave, That is one happy cat since she found a home. She is undergoing trauma recently since I am forcing her to come inside. She HATES the dogs, except BJ, whom she antagonizes. But I enjoy her inside so she has to suffer thru it. Funny thing is the dogs do not bother her and she can do far more damage to them than they to her.

  13. Tina -- a joke about the movie "Deliverance" -- they had to paddle faster to get away from the bad guys! :-) The musical score was "Dueling Banjos" and there are several in my family who play banjos.

  14. Thank you for telling me Cameron, I don't think I have seen that movie, hence my non knowledge of Walk2Write's comment.

Walk2Write-That is perfect for Cameron's kayak as it would work too:)

  15. My x-husband and his boats. The stories are endless and extreme;) The last one we had (while still married) was Ramblin' Wreck for his alma mater. This was a DEA confiscated boat that had belonged to some drug lord.

  16. Cute name but I bet anyone who sees it in the water figures it is a party boat with a single guy at the helm.

  17. Too funny on the boats name, lol. We don't have a name for ours --but we did have some unexpected visitors on it a few weeks back --and it wasn't a pretty sight:( A bobcat brought his lunch onto the boat and proceeded to leave us with a huge mess --it wasn't exactly a brown bag lunch if you know what I mean:0( Several powerwashes and neutralizers later and it was back to it's old self though. A very windy day here and quite warm too! The kiddos have a half day and then the Christmas break starts --fun, fun, fun --just waiting on Santa --oh yeah and trying to be good, hahaha.

  18. Marnie, I am just betting you have some doozies to tell about the ex and his boat. It is like that with the men sometimes. A DEA repo? I bet it was a nice boat....even with such a name!

Mom, Yup, Cat house indeed. The lady on the boat tends to tell anyone otherwise that might think Mr. Fix-it is single. ☻

Anonymous, How scary a bobcat in your yard! Did you get a good picture? Always the blogger I have to think that first. And yuck on the mess! Very windy day here. I finally, FINALLY finished planting all bulbs. It is funny about the high school One of Jimmy's middle school friends already called for him and I had to remind him how lucky he is to be in middle school today since the high schoolers have a full day. Ha! Poor kids, but winter break is here soon enough.

  19. Love the cat... female orange tabbies are rare. Maybe you can teach her to captain the boat so it doesn't block your garden's view! (What?!)

  21. Tina,

We must not have much imagination..we have a black cat we named Coal! No one we know has animals with any names remotely cute and adorable!

  22. Orkin looks quite content on his perch Tina!

My dad had small prop plane when I was a kid. The propeller reminded him of a mustache, and he named the plane The Rickety Mustache. That gives you an idea of what kind of shape his plane was in!

  23. I love these kitty posts! I posted about my Smokie today too! What's a garden without a cat? I don't have any interesting names to share, darn it. But I was just thinking: in my post, I mentioned the 'big cat box in the sky'. It would have been a riot if I'd said 'big cat house in the sky'!! Jan

  25. Submariners call submarines boats. Everything else is just targets.

Is it true what I've heard about boat owners? That the two happiest days of their lives is when they buy their boat, and when they sell it?

  26. Good Evening All,
Orbit sure looks comfy. She is a bute. she's just telling the birdies they better go somewhere else to do their business. lol
    Have a beautiful day tomorrow.

  27. i know i posted a comment yesterday. where do those comments go into cyber space somewhere?

i was saying that we too have a boat covered in this very blue fabric that never leaves our yard. but i have a barn to hide mine.
i whould name it never goes anywheree or always in need of repair.

  28. I have been very negligent answering you all. I kind of thought hubby would get on here and respond to the comments since they are about his silly boat, but I'll fill in as he is busy in the garden:)

Monica, I know nothing about cats but now that you mention it I have never seen a female orange tabby. I had a male one growing up. She is such a sweetie and trust me, I wish she could captain that boat into my neighbor's yard or the lake!

Racquel, He is a jokester at times!

Now Gail, Coal for a black cat is a purrfectly great name-and creative too.

Linda, I hear ya! I hope you kids did not fly in it with him:)

Jan, I know I saw your post. Loved it as so many bloggers talk of plant eating kitties and there was Smokey. A good name btw.

Dan, In the high 60s yesterday. Plants are happy, I'm happy, but cold is coming on tomorrow. Time to get in the house and out of the garden. I have my fingers crossed for your sprouts.

TC, I am so gonna let Mr. Fix-it respond to you:) As for me, the day he gets rid of the boat-even giving it away will be a happy day for me-he knows it too and it really doesn't have anything to do with it blocking the garden. Ha!

Lola, Those birdies are hopefully wise to Orkin. She is such a predator and it frustrates me when she gets the good guys-the bug eaters and pretty birds. I wish I could train her-only voles, chipmunks and squirrels. She hasn't gotten a squirrel yet but it is only a matter of time.

Marmee, A barn to hide the boat is SO perfect! We have a spot like that too but unfortunately it is filled with gardens or autos. I don't know which is worse, the boat or autos. I LIKE your boat name. Hubby will love it too once he gets on here.

  29. TC Yes it is true that the two happiest Day's in a boaters life is when he gets his boat and when he sells it.
    To All
The wife hates the boat because it takes away from her Gardens. She doesn't like going out on it because she is afraid it will break down. I got taken when I bought the boat, the guy that sold it to me said all it needed was a carburetor. He had trash in the floor of the boat so when I climbed into the boat and walked around the floor felt solid. Once I got it home and cleaned out I stepped through the floor. Then I pulled the drain plug for the oil and 5 gallons of water came out before any oil. The boat was sunk in the ocean and I should have charged the guy for hauling it off. I could have bought a new boat for slightly less than what I have in this one, I completely rebuilt it myself. I had to manufacture many parts for it as the manufacturer went out of business in the 80's, so limited replacement parts were available. So she just doesn't trust my work. It is true the boat has broken down three times in 4 seasons of boating The alternator went out once. A wire that powers the fuel pump came unplugged, and The oil line for the oil pressure gauge burned into causing all the oil to get pumped inside the boat making me shut it down to prevent the motor from blowing up. The only time it really needed to be towed was when the oil line broke. I could have fixed the wire on the water for the fuel pump if I would not have been frustrated

  30. Ha Ha honey. You see I have the gardens, you have engines and we both work on them in the garden.... Match made in heaven:)

  31. Too funny. We have a pool cover of the same color that seems to attract birds, but I don't want them getting to comfy on it.

  32. Thanks Dot and JGH, You just gotta love it! I want to wish you all Happy Holidays.

  33. I actually think the cat's name is brilliant--she's a she? That is rare--does she live up to her name?

BTW, loved Mr. Fix-its contribution. We bought our last car (and trailer hitch) with the intention of getting a boat, then we never did--probably a good thing considering how much time we waste on other things!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi Cosmo! I've been missing you, but know this is such a busy time of the year and it sounds as though you have been busy-parties and all.

Yes, Orkin is a great pest control kitty and a girl too. She came to us as a stray, but an already spayed stray. She is the best and I simply adore her. Right now my newest project is to get her used to coming inside the house. But I think she thinks the dogs are too big for her to handle. lol

Be glad you don't have a boat as they take so much work and it sure does get a bit time consuming. Every now and then though I have to admit, the time on the boat is relaxing and it is nice to forget about the world for a bit.
