Whimsy and Helpers

As I walked around the yard the other day looking at all the gardens I have {yes, I have named each one} I began to notice all the critters and helpers. In my New Back Yard Garden there sat these cuties. Then this guy caught my eye as he sat overlooking my Asparagus Garden. Even Mr. Oak is helping.

As I ventured toward the front of the house I ran into Mr Rooster guarding the mums sitting
beneath the Persimmon Tree. I turned to my right and there was this gnome with his rake in hand cleaning up my Canna Garden.

I began to wonder what else I might find. Looking further I saw petunias and saliva still blooming in a pot sitting in my new Front Door Garden. Oh my, this little gnome, hoe in hand, was ready to do some weeding till he noticed the ravens that had stopped by to see what was going on.

As I turned to check on Kermit and Uncle Martin I notice this little door. Why, it looks as if someone has been going and coming. Oh my goodness, I looked up and behold I saw her. This little fairy was sitting there on a limb of the Purple Leaf Plum Tree. As I walked around looking at other flowers and shrubs I noticed her in other places. Seems as though she was following me to see what I was up to.

So I guess I have plenty of help------

In The Garden

  2. Good Morning to you Frances. Yes, I'm sure that she will be there to help me in many a project. It's kind of nice to know you have company in the garden.

  3. Lola,

You have some very fine helpers in your gardens. They are really out of hiding while the gardens rest over the winter. Your rooster is my favorite! :-)

  4. Look at all of those helpers you have. How wonderful. I think mine are hibernating now. Or maybe they took a trip to help some of their friends and relatives care for some warmer gardens?

  5. I have found gnomes and fairies don't seem to get much work done;) I do believe they bring good luck, tho.

  8. Hi Lola, Too cute! Is the Mr Oak a bird feeder? I saw something like that up here and the face pieces were grooved out on top of each to put seed. It was sooo neat! I want one of those fairy doors!

  9. Hi, Lola! Glad to see you back here. Thank you so much for the Christmas greetings! The cards I sent this year were fewer and later, unfortunately.

As Cameron said, I think your helpers have come out of hiding this winter. Everybody can use a little help in the garden:)

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

  10. Lola, I love whimsical things in the garden! My favorite things are bunnies--I bought 3 before Christmas at a garden shop going out of business. I can't wait to put them out in the yard.

  12. Lola, What a cute post of your helpers! I did not think I had much whimsy in my garden until I started to snap pictures one day for a future posting. Wow was I surprised as to how much I have around me! I love to have such fun things in the yard they brighten each day for me. I am a nut and even talk to some of the statues. How crazy am I??? Not too crazy because so far, none of them have talked back to me, well, Not Yet anyway…

  14. Cinj,
I'm sure your helpers are not far away. They are just trying to stay warm for a bit. Some of them could have headed South.

  15. Well, My head is not on right.
    Good Morning All.
    Marnie,
I do believe that the gnomes & fairies do help some but they mostly bring good luck. I really need a lot of that.

  16. You are most welcome Gail. I would miss my helpers. I find myself talking to them sometimes. And my fairy has a sister, I just couldn't catch her on film. Maybe one day. lol

  17. Hi Anonymous.
You are welcome. Have a great time in Nashville. I know the kiddos will like that.

  18. Hi Dawn,
I'm glad you like Mr Oak. He is not a bird feeder but there are sections that glow. It's so neat. You can look out at night & see him with a "glowing smile". I was surprised to find the fairy door & then the fairy. lol Such a delight.
Maybe your personal fairy will leave her door where you can see it.

  19. Hi Rose,
You are welcome. Yes, seems as though my helpers have stayed around for a spell. And yes, you can always use some help in the garden from time to time.

  21. Hi Meadowview Thymes. I love the bunnies in the garden also. As you say in the pic those 2 cuties were huddled together. I think I may have startled them a bit. I also have a couple white ones--a mom & baby. But they need sprucing up a bit.

  22. Hey Jean,
Good hearing from you. Thanks for the card & info. Yes, I surely like my company.

  23. Skeeter, Thank you for the nice compliment. I really like to have them around. They are a comfort of sorts. At least I know I'm not in the garden alone. They do help in a lot of ways & bring me some luck along the way.
You are not a nut. Just a great person that loves life & what it has to offer.
Don't worry if they do "talk" back to you one day. lol lol

  27. Geez, I'm so used to responding to everyone's comments and commenting on other blogs I sometimes forget to comment on my own! Good job on all your whimsy Lola. I love the tree guy. Skeeter had quite a few too. I really need to get me one or two for my trees as well. You have lots of helpers and company in your garden so I know you are never alone-always a nice thing when working hard! Hope you are having a great day Lola and I wanted to tell you that you are doing a super job too! I am enjoying the break. ttyl Should I tie a string around my finger? Dawn?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nope, you don't need to comment on my post tomorrow, go sale shopping for the day. I am, once the kids are back to school!

  29. Racquel,
I do seem to have quite a few. I like them but try to display them in the right place. It helps me know I'm not alone.

  30. Hi Amy,
I do like surprises in my garden. Some more so than others.
I hope you have a very HAPPY NEW YEAR.

  31. Hi Tina,
Thanks so much for the nice compliments. They mean a lot to me coming from you.

Yes, I like the tree guy also. He glows at night. I have a couple more but only 1 tree big enough so I switch them out or just put one on the other side. I had noticed Skeeters in some of her pics. Plus I saw some on trees at my step daughters. I think they are cute.

No need for a string. I'll mark 1-26 on my calendar.

I'm glad you are enjoying some r& r as you deserve it. You do so much for others. You need to take time for yourself.

I hope you & your family have a very HAPPY NEW YEAR & a very prospers one.

  32. Thanks Lola! You are doing an awesome job and thanks for your kind comments. I am glad you enjoy the blog and you have been on here for such a long time too! Now we can share it. The string was for me to remember this blog-not you:)

And Dawn, You know better than anyone I always forget to comment. But I read your post already so it will be quite easy. Shopping? Hmmm, my neighbor and I are going flea marketing. With a quick stop at Goodwill to drop off too many curtains!

    ReplyDelete
  33. LOL LOL LOL That's ok Tina. If I don't use the string I can't remember my own name. Then I forget what the string is for. I use a huge calender so I can write it down.
Boy, I love flea markets & antique places. It wouldn't do for me to have a lot of money.
    Enjoy.

  34. Dont worry about forgetting things girls, we all do it. The Saints mom forgot the heated sweet potatoes (left overs) and found them in the microwave after we had ate dinner :-) I do love the tree faces. They are all over our woods, I found them at bargain prices and will be on the lookout for you some Tina. I did my bargain shopping today finding 70% off. Made it to all the craft shops and found some things to change out the garlands a bit next year. I am excited and ready to work on them now! Would I be crazy to make them now and pack them away until next year??? tee hee....

  35. I say go for it now Skeeter, who knows what next year may bring. I am going out tomorrow-with not much money at all. But I am working on a glass mosaic and need some gems. I hope they are marked down too. Glad you found good bargains-looks like everyone did!

  36. Skeeter, did you notice I missed the holiday selling for my new ornaments? Wah hah! I have some to go yet in my promise to the set. So...how is it done while keeping the christmas spirit? Mine is wearing thin. To think...the push to the finish only to pack up!
I'm jealous, I need to flea mkt shop for me, by-my-self! Have fun guys.

  37. Skeeter too funny about the sweet potatoes. They would have been good by themselves--even desert. I agree with Tina--go for it. May even save you some time next yr.

Tina I hope you find some gems for your table.

And Dawn, I had wondered why you didn't offer the decorations for sale for Christmas. They would even make good Christmas gifts.

    Nighty Night all.

  38. Hi Lola, I forgot to answer you when you asked me that, then I remembered when I went to bed, guess with all the holidays it slipped from me. But, yes, since I rearranged the colors I've added to the set and it seems to have taken alife of its own, oh well....might be bigger yet again next year! LOL!!!

  39. Dawn, If I'm still kicking next yr. I wouldn't mind having a set. We'll see when the time comes.

  40. Lola and Tina, I might play around with the garlands a bit but I am sure that the Saint is tired of looking at everything by now. Oh well, he has a new TV he can look at so what do I care. Tee hee...

Tina, did you find any gems for your pots? I did not look at them while in Michaels but most everything was on sale. Today I was somewhere and notice 75% off but dont recall where. We were light fixture and TV cabinet hunting and not allowed to look at Christmas stuff tonight. I get too involved and then dont get anything else accomplished so I had my blinders on today where Christmas stuff was concerned. I did notice lots of stuff still in Wal-Mart so they must not have had a good sale going on or no one buying all that stuff. I look more for crafting materials then decorations this time of year. Usually Wal-Mart is cleaned out by now so surprised to see so much stuff still on the shelves….

Dawn, look at it this way, you will be so far ahead next year with ornaments...

  41. Tina, I said pot but you just said mosaic so is it a pot or am I just assuming here????

    ReplyDelete
  42. I did find some gems, the lady was not happy I pretty much bought them out. They were not on sale but fairly cheap compared to Michaels. We only have Hobby Lobby here. I am playing around with it tonight hopefully. No, definitely not a pot. And Skeeter, if I were the Saint I'd pretty much just look at the beautiful TV too!)

  43. Lola, I love all of your helpers, and the fairy seems quite the gad-about. She's likin' the lichen on that tree, I think. And that shrub she is sitting on, do you know the name? I think I have some like it.
