Things are hot and very humid here in my Georgia Garden. Luckily, we have had a few afternoon showers to give everything a nice drink filled with vitamins and minerals that the hose cannot match. I don't usually purchase plants for the garden this time of year but some times, we get off our garden normal.
As I walked through the garden center on my way to pick up a few items at Wally World, I noticed they had some plants marked half price. I just had to stop and take a peek as to what remain on the shelf. I found this beautiful green healthy plant.
I had no idea what it was due to lack of a tag in place. But hey a half price bargain is a half price bargain ya know. Plus this was sitting on the Perennial rack so I could not resist.
The leaves are a heart shape and I just love hearts in the Garden don't you? Later on, I spotted the name "Hibiscus Luna" and "Pink Swirl" printed on the container. I still had no idea what I had purchased. To the Internet I went to find out that I have a Hibiscus Moscheutos, Also known as Rose Mallow and Swamp Mallow. I planted Luna in the ever growing Wishing Well Garden yesterday. This Gem of a plant will have large blooms, attracts Butterflies and Hummingbirds. Is heat tolerant and low maintenance. It loves the sun and can withstand temperatures low as -20 degrees! It will grow to a height of 24"-36" and will be about 24" wide. Me thinks me has a winner!Hopefully with 2 more months of heat, she will have time to establish before the cooler temps set upon us. Look at that bud of HIBISCUS LUNA, In the Garden...Update: Here is a Hibiscus Luna bloom that I saw in Tina's garden last summer. I wonder if mine will be white or a pink color? Only time will tell so stay tuned...

Now that was luck, huh? It's going to be gorgeous there, wonder what color it will be?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! I bet it will do very well in your gardens. I wonder if it will be white, since it is called Luna. That is a nice fat bud.

Great buy! I love to find things this time of year..you can really get some good deals. I agree--you have a winner! (be sure and show pictures of the blooms!)
ReplyDeleteI love it when I get a great sale on something. Congratulations on a finding a really nice plant at bargain prices.
ReplyDeleteMarnie
I just love those half buy plants. Lowes is great for it up here. Do you remember when you visited last summer and took a picture of a hibiscus? A big white one? It was 'Luna'. It was a lovely little shrub and I wish I still had it but it did not return this year:( Yours will do better and looks great! Happy Birthday to Dawn!
ReplyDeleteOh my! Sure are lucky! Hibiscus are really pretty, I had a orange one once. They are not hardy up here but wowser! Pretty flowers. I believe Hawaiian flower.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the special wishes!
Good Morning everyone! Another heat warning out for today with more 100-plus degrees nastiness....
ReplyDeleteDarla, I am guessing since the name is "Pink Swirl" a pink in color. That is ironic because I also picked up a bargain pink zinnia at the same time!
Flowerlady, Darla and I were just talking about the color. I am going to guess pink but yep, the name Luna had me thinking white as well. The Saint was wondering if Luna meant it would bloom at night…
Meadow, I normally put on blinders when going by a Garden Center this time of year. Way too hot to be digging in the yard. But this one caught my eye and I hope to be a winner for me. Stay tuned for that bloom…
Marnie, Thanks, bargains are the best and I really hope she last for me and returns next year. Then I will feel a bit more excitement over this bargain…
Tina, I do remember snapping a pic of a white hibiscus. I will have to go back and look in my pic files to find it. Oh, I found it and will add it to the post now. I do wonder if mine will be white or pink? Only time will tell. Wonder why yours did not return. Maybe too cold up there this past winter with all that snow…
Dawn, I hope you have a great day today girl... I knew a certain type Hibiscus was hardy here but not sure until possibly now. Luna must be the ones I see all over town in gardens blooming. I had a reddish/orange Hibiscus that I took inside each year but was tired of dragging it in as the cats like to eat it. I passed it along to Tina. They sure are pretty flowers…
ReplyDeleteTina, did that Hibiscus survive or die in the TN winter???
Great bargin and I bet you will enjoy it for many years to come. The Hibiscus plants are awesome. I bought some seeds but have not yet got them planted so will probably wait now till winter so they will be ready for next summer. I know up here I will have to bring it inside during winter so it will never get as big as yours will.
ReplyDeleteI hope it does well for you.
ReplyDeleteDawn and Mom, There is a hardy hibiscus for up in your area. Dad has one and he just loves it. It is most colorful and gives him lots of pleasure each year.
ReplyDeleteSkeeter, Yup, she's still here on the front sidewalk. Bloomed nicely. Right now she is not blooming but has plenty of leaves. I bring it in the house for some greenery. This is not a plant that would do well in a greenhouse I think because it did not like my garage last winter and it almost died, but is doing great! I love the greenery in the living room by the windows.
That will look awesome next to that Banana Tree. Great and lucky choice.

I got both my hibiscuses deep-discount sale. I didn't know the colors--one is deep red (which I like because it's different) and one which is pink. I have an odd love-hate relationship with hibiscus. I can't explain it.
ReplyDeleteLovely....I tried to grow some from seeds and have had some luck
ReplyDeleteGood time to shop for plants, huh? The hibiscus is one flower I miss a lot. We had lots of them in our yard when I was growing up in Florida. I should try to find some hardy ones for NY. How hardy is LUNA??
ReplyDeleteOh, she's going to be one beautiful plant when she grows up! Would you believe that no one sells hardy hibiscus around here? At least none of the places I've found. I've seen them growing at the research gardens in Quincy and asked the director why none of the stores have them for sale. He said it's probably because they don't come into full bloom until mid to late summer, and by then nobody wants to buy and plant anything. That's probably why you found it on the sales rack. Guess I'll have to order one from a catalog. Stay cool!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your find, it's been so hot here I haven't bothered with plant shopping. :(
ReplyDeleteGood find! I have 'Luna Blush' and love it.
ReplyDeleteHey, I have the same plant...well it looks the same. Never knew there were non tropical hibiscus.
ReplyDeleteI'd have more if the yard was bigger.
I have that bloom at home, but don't think the rest looks like mine. I will have to go home and check it out. We already just called them hardy hibiscus, or dinner plate hibiscus.
ReplyDeleteGood Evening everyone. I was off the computer as the Saint decided it was time to move it and add some new things to her. I was pacing the floor in hopes he would not mess it up for me as I so hate change where the conputer is concerned. LOL, My Computer Wizard has it running again and now in the sunroom. I will miss my Garden view from upstairs but not the heat that goes up those stairs in the summer months. Now I can turn the AC down a bit and save some money....
ReplyDeleteJGH, What I read on the Internet, Luna will be hardy to minus 20 degrees so I think she will do well in my GA zone...
Okay, it is late and I must get to bed. I have a headache from being on the computer surfing Blogs all day. But what fun it was to finally get to visist other gardens again....
Hi Skeeter, that certainly is a beautiful find. I did not seem to know Hibiscus with that kind of leaf, but yes that is a big genus. Certainly the shape of the flower is so beautiful, we will wait for your blooms. I hope it is a lavender! hahaha.
ReplyDeleteHi Tina,
ReplyDeleteYou have a nice and beautiful blog, indeed. I enjoyed reading this post. I've been growing plants for many years, but started blogging just recently, and I have a long way to go. I'm learning something everyday, and I love gardening! You've mentioned in the 'About Us' that you lived among other places in Alabama. Where exactly did you live, in what city? I'm down in Mobile on the Gulf. Bloging is so amazing, and an oportunity to connect with so many wonderful people. This is my first time on your blog, but I'll be comming back.
Thanks Tina,
Mike
Hi Mike, Welcome to the blog and to blogging! Blogging is indeed a wonderful way to meet new people and learn new things. Tina here but this is Skeeter's post. She'll appreciate you like her beautiful hibiscus. The url probably throws people off. I lived in the southeast part of Alabama for two years. Wow, anyone who can garden down there is really a strong person. It was too hot for me and the red ants about did me in. I've been to Mobile a few times, mainly on my way to NO (I love the Big Easy). You live in a very neat area. On my way to say hello to you now on your blog...
