Odd Things Happening

BY SKEETER
I have noticed some odd things here in my Georgia Gardens lately. One such odd thing is the blooming of some Azalea Bushes! These are NOT the Encore Azalea's which are expected to bloom a second time in the year. This happen one other time in the 11 years we have lived here but that time it was only one bush. I have noticed several of the bushes with some blooms on them this week.

Another Odd thing is the Viburnum Snowball bush is blooming! This has never happen in the 11 years we have lived here. It only blooms in the Spring.
I found this odd thing happening as well.
Rudbeckia without a stem! That's a first for me.
This is a sight that is not so odd but I wanted to share it with y'all today. Since I have added more plants to the backyard area, the deer are more of a common sight in this area. Before, they only went to the birdbath for a drink and to nibble the blooms of the Liriope Grass in the planter to the right. Now they come to munch on such fun things as Purple Queen and my Knockout Rose bushes! Grrrr, on the rose's but the season is just about over so we are allowing them to munch down for now. I hope to show you more things in bloom on Tuesday. My neck has really been bothering me for a while now and I find sitting at the computer painful but I shall do what I can in blogworld as I so enjoy talking about my pretties. Do you have any ODD THINGS HAPPENING, In the Garden....

  2. I'm not sure what's going on there, Skeeter. When plants are under a lot of stress, they react in uncharacteristic ways, such as blooming out of season. Maybe the deer have the plants shaking in their boots:) I hope your neck feels better soon. Have you tried getting a massage?

  3. Skeeter,
Hope your neck gets better! Yes some plants think it is spring. Our edgeworthia has 3/4 inch buds on it. Our second season for it, so I don't know what to expect.

  4. One azalea bush has been repeat blooming this year, has several blooms right now.

That stemless rudbekia is really unusual.

Hope your neck is soon feeling better.

  5. May be odd, but very pretty, except the munching deer!

  6. Everything has stayed greener longer here and we just started getting our cooler temps. I wonder what the plants know that we don't??

  7. I think it odd to see azaleas and viburnums blooming this time of the year too but ever so fun! Not sure what is up with your rudebeckia. Sometimes flowers like clivia don't grow a full stem before they bloom because they haven't been properly treated and don't have enough energy but I would not think that would be a problem with outside rudebecia. Strange. Maybe the cold made it shrink a bit. Hope your neck feels better!

  11. I have lots of new growth on plants, a Clematis is about to bloom that regularly blooms in the early spring.
Randy, my edgeworthias have big plump buds now, they will continue to get a bit more mature and bloom this winter, normal time for them.

  12. The deer are pretty. My dau. has a set of twins in her yard in upper Ga. I think it's strange that blooms are happening now. Saw some on my Flowering Almond. Go figure. Saw signs that the temp dipped down as it burnt the edges of my Pine cone lily. It has been blooming for some time.
Sure hope your neck feels better soon. The Ball is coming up & you need to be fit as a fiddle.

  16. I could deal with odd things like that. My roses are still blooming their hearts out here but they usually do have some blooms in October. The thing that is blooming that I did not expect is my okra! Of all things but I doubt it will get to an eating stage but I hope it does. It had already given me a good crop and it was soooo good this year.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  17. I think this has been such an odd year all around. The early spring may have confused a lot of plants into thinking another year has passed by and it's time to bloom again.

I know deer munching on garden plants can be so frustrating, but I just can't help but admire what beautiful, graceful animals they are...as long as they're not in my garden:)
