  1. There was a frost here as well. The only thing I had in blood was irises and azaleas...well, and a few trees.I am ready for the warm weather to get here and stay.

  2. What beautiful pictures --looks like you faired well with the frost. I have to uncover the lilac bushes, lol. They are the only thing hubby covered since he knows I just love the smell of those flowers --off to the zoo today. Have a great day!

  4. Glad the frost was not too bad and hope that is it for you folks. Can you believe we did not have a frost last night but many more frosty nights to come for us.

You sure do have a lot blooming and the lilacs are just the way I like them for picking....half open and half not.

Gotta run as going to Portland. Tom has app. on new wheel chair and tonight is MD support meeting so will be long day with shopping in between and maybe little shopping after meeting. Now that we have all the stores but BJ"S in Brunswick that is the only one I really care about but we still seem to make the rounds. LOL

Hope all has a good day and it sure is great to see Lola back!!

  6. Hi Jillybean, Blood works just as good as bloom as we oftentimes put so much into our flowers. Hope they did well. Mine did! Whew!

Anonymous, Your hubby is a sweetheart. Did he cover the big one as well? Have fun at the zoo. Takes lots of pictures!

Dawn, Is the sunshine melting the snow finally? Any blooms yet?

Mom, Good morning! I hope you have a good day to Portland and tell Tom I said hello. Don't overdo it.

    What is BJs?

Skeeter, I wouldn't worry overly much. Only a light freeze I think. You should be fine but I will hope for no damage on your flowers. It doesn't feel like spring this morning now.

Can you believe I left houseplants outside? Philodendron, spider plants and a pothos and huge umbrella plant. No damage. Whew. Can't believe I forgot them as I was too focused on the J. maples. Got some errands. ttyl

  7. Wow Tina! You have so much blooming is there any room on your camera card? Looks great!

  8. Oh, your azaleas are open, and lots of iris. How beautiful. That is lamium 'Hermann's Pride', I have a close up of him in my bloom day post too, your shot shows what he really looks like in the garden, mine makes him look more special than he really is. HA

  9. Dave-52 pictures and it filled up! I had to download and go back for more and still didn't get it all on here! I probably never will but will let it go for now.

Frances, I always thought these were cyclamens in my garden. I have three varieties. After I saw your post this morning I KNEW I had been mistaken and had to fix it and hope you could identify it. Thank you so much as I am trying to catalog these and just can't keep track. I am 'Hermann's Pride' to my spreadsheet now. I have a post ready explaining those irises. Maybe you can even help me identify them or I'll find the package from mail order. ha ha ha. Me find ANYTHING here not on the computer??? Think I'll need more help-lots!

  10. Great Pictures Tina. You sure have a lot blooming for it to be so cool. Maybe they just like cool weather. I like the crocked tree--it is so unusual. I like the unusual.

Hi Jillybean, Ananymous, Jean, Dawn, Skeeter & Dave. I hope your weather gets much better soon.

"Let us be grateful to people
    Who make us happy,
They are the charming gardeners who make
    Our souls blossom".

  12. That is nice Lola...

I love iris, will be excited to see that posting...

Tina, you need a larger card for the camera then you can go forever!

  13. Mowed grass and listen to weatherman. Says possible freeze and I am too cheap to risk loosing my new plants so porch plants inside with ferns. Elephant ears, peony and maple trees covered up. Hopefully the others will survive. I personally hope I did this all for nothing and it does not freeze but I am ready just in case...

  14. Tina,

    Hey fabulous blooms...

This has been a tough day so stopping to see some flowers is a relief!

    More later!

  15. Hi Guys,
My 'puter just got done loading everything, it's so cheesy.
Your yard must be FULL of lovely color. The sunshine melted alot of the snow, we have patches of bare ground finally reaching one another. The birds discovered the feeder today, hubby and Zack were watching them throw out the seed they didn't want. Gosh, they are awfully chubby for having ground covered with snow and ice.

  16. Thanks for joining in for Bloom Day. Your garden looks like it is very pretty right now, with all those blooms!

  17. I love you bleeding hearts. I can't seem to get them to grow here. I think it gets too hot and dry.

  18. Hi Y'all --busy day but the zoo trip went well. Oh Skeeter this place was LAME as far as pretty flowers --see that Masters course spoiled me, lol. We enjoyed the animals but the most fun was seeing the little frogs --poison frogs inside a building --the kids loved them --I think it was the pretty colors, blue/black/green just as cute as could be. Thank goodness there is no way for them to touch them, hahaha they'd be trying to bring them home. Did mow the front yard today --ran out of gas so that is my excuse for not doing the back:) Went down to the fairgrounds park to feed the ducks --the kids love to see them up close. I hope there isn't a freeze tonight my lilac coverman is at work and I am not going out back that far in the dark to cover my big lilac bush. I did clip some more lilacs and brought them inside for the smell of course:) Have a great night --tomorrow is another proctor day so I will see you all when I am finished. Ciao!

  19. Lola and everyone, All you guys are nice to read the other blogs and even to comment. Be careful though, don't get too addicted! Like me!

Short comment due to IE problems at night. No one will complain I am sure as you know how wordy I am!

skeeter-you'll be ok-sure if you didn't cover then would come the big chill...

dawn-so glad the birds found you. they find their way even with snow..

carol, love visiting all the garden blogs and it is nice to have a central spot.

aunt debbi/kurt's mom, too hot and dry? i would think they could still deal with it as mine go dormant in the summer. maybe give bleeding hearts another try.

anonymous, how are your duckies doing?? i bet the sidekick and the girl model had a LOVELY day with mom as it was very nice outside.

  21. Well we I am home but it was a very long day and did'nt even get to go to BJ's and Tina BJ'S is a really big membership place like SAM'S. I thought you used to go to BJ'S but musta been SAM'S I will have to make another trip to Portland as I am close to being out of some things I buy there. I will be so glad when they build the BJ'S in Topsham.

Was late getting Tom to his app. as we were tied up on interstate an hour. Dawn, you probably saw on the news of the bad accident. IT WAS TERRIBLE!!! A car crossed the medium strip and hit a channel 6 TV van with Susan Kimball and a camera man in it. They were headed to Topsham to cover the mess over the BIW Union. The ambulances were gone and the van which had flipped was uprighted by the time we got to go by it. They were both in the mediim strip about 500 yards from each other and burnt badly, especially the car and the engine was on the other side of the south bound lane (impact was in the north lane) in 3 pieces. I do not know how anyone got out alive. I guess the reporter and camera man will be okay but the girl that caused the accident was a college student from "the county" and died tonight.
So could have been much worse but it did mess up our day and I am sure many others but we were the lucky ones. Then to top it all off the MDA metting ran long tonight.

On a better note, Lola, that was a really cute poem!!

Tina I enjoy reading all the other blogs but only take time to comment on the others very sledom, saving my time for here. I should say, I try to only comment here but sometimes I just have to get my 2 cents worth in. LOL

Anonymous it sounds like you had a busy and good day.

Skeeter if you like irises you should be in Maine. A Dr McEwen, who is world renowned as he is the daddy of MANY irises. He lived 2 miles from me. He was such a nice, sweet, gentle and wonderful man. He passes away a couple, maybe 3 years ago at age 101 and still gardened till the last couple of years. His daughter still has his iris garden opened to the public. You may remember Tina and I have mentioned him a couple of times before.

Gail I am very sorry you had a rough day and you and your Mom and family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Tina, Bleeding Heart is another plant that Nana really loved and one of Nana's bleeding Heart along with her Rubarb are the 2 I lost, a couple of years apart. I had divided the Bleeding Heart as a friend wanted some and it died. Sure wish I had not done that.

Now that I have written a book guess I'll go to bed and do all the other blogs tomorrow, or later today I mean.

  22. Anonymous, did you go to the Nashville zoo? I have not been there yet and need to take a trip some time. I dont like cage type zoos. I dont like seeing the animals in cages. Usually zoos have lots of pretty flowers and plants. Hum, strange this one did not…If the kiddos like frogs, they would love my yard! We have many different types of frogs. My favorites are the little green tree frogs. They get on the windows of the house and drive the cats nuts from inside!

Jean, sorry you were late for the apt but glad you were not involved in the accident. Every time we take off for TN, I worry about driving through Spaghetti Junction in Atlanta; it can get so wild with cars zipping in and out of traffic. We try to plan our times but most often, we end up there during rush hour. arggg..

Jean, I recall an article in the ‘Birds and Blooms’ magazine about a man with his iris in that area. I wonder if it could be the same gentleman. They did say his family has kept the place open in his honor...

Here's wishing you a better day today Gail...

  23. Wow! So much diversity and color in one garden. At times like this, I'm sure you are happy to be living south of Maine. Must be quite a mud season this year.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mom, That is AWFUL that accident! Glad you weren't involved. I did not know Nana loved bleeding hearts. Mine have taken off pretty well. A white and pink which is nice. If I find some seedlings I bring you some. Not the same as Nana's but still bleeding hearts.

I want to see Dr. McEwen's garden. I still have the article on him. So talented. I am sure Sarah knows it well?

Anonymous-Where are you this morning? I know the marathon family is not sore or tired from all that walking at the zoo like I would be, but you are usually here first thing. Skeeter beat you today. lol

sarah, Please tell your husband he did an awesome job as a guest blogger. I enjoyed his and your son's trip thru the countryside. A few more months and you'll be back across the 'big pond'? I am happy to live south of Maine and I hear the snow is melting from my sister. In the Brunswick area it is not so bad because of the ocean. Good mud season for sure.

  25. My boss was stuck in that accident as well yesterday. The 24 year old woman driving the car that jumped the median died. Awful, to young for that. The damage was horrible! Tragic!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lola so sorry you have to deal with another service and all that goes with it. Hopefully the 3rd will be it.

Skeeter I do not blame you about Atlanta as I also hate driving thru there. I'd MUCH rather do New York City.

My parents had a tree frog that went back and forth from Maine to Flordia in the 5th wheel for several years. Does not seem like they would live that long so must have been different ones but it was just 1 and happened several years in a row. It always stayed on the same window screen. Funny.

My bet is that it was Dr. McEwen that you read about as, like I said, he is world renowned and there have been many, many articles in many different papers and magazines that I know about but have not seen one since he passed away. His daughter, Kathy, lives 5 houses from me.

Welcome back Sarah and I do agree with my daughter, I loved the post your husband did and I check in every Wed and ejoy all the posts.
The mud is actually not to bad in this area this year so we really lucked out. Went to Portland yesterday and the tulips are up enough to bloom in about a week I'd say but not up quite that much in our area.

Christy if you do not need a new fancy bike I have one in the basement that I used to ride at the tank farm you can have.

Hope everyone has a great day but am esp hoping Gail does.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks Mimi, but that bike needs ALOT of work to become road ready. I have one, but it is to heavy for me. I am not going to spend much. Something with off road and on road wheels. Thanks for the offer though.
